MacBook freezes with 8GB 2x KVR1066D3S7 4G Kingston RAM Modules

2GHz A1278 MacBook Unibody 13"

MB 5,1 with Boot ROM Version: MB51.007D.B03 running OS 10.6.8 freezes with Kingston KVR1066D3S7/4G (2 modules) 8GB.

Is there any setting for max mem or bootrom version, or anything else that can prevent the freezing problem?

Is this a brand issue?

Thank you for answers!

Clearly the new RAM modules I got are incompatible with Macbooks. My MacBook indeed is Boot ROM Version MB51.007D.B03 and running on 10.6.8. I Tried all OS X Versions from 10.6 to 10.9.2 with the same modules (8GB installed), except the freezing problem (due to incompatibility) everything else looked OK. Actually it passed all hardware tests at a Apple service.

I should have checked the RAM modules before the purchase!

Solução escolhida

From the Kinston memory guide listing: KVR1066D3S7/4G & here is the spec sheet for them: KVR1066D3S7/4G 4GB 512M x 64-Bit PC3-8500 CL7 204-Pin SODIMM. This is not the correct memory for any MacBook system (by their listing).

Without a clear model listed to work off of I can't tell you what is the ideal memory is.

RAM Type: PC3-8500 DDR3 Min. RAM Speed: 1066 MHz

Standard RAM: 2 GB Maximum RAM: 8 GB*

Details: 2 GB of RAM is installed as two 1 GB modules, no slots free.

*Apple officially supports a maximum of 4 GB of RAM. Originally, this model was only unofficially capable of stably supporting 6 GB of RAM, but as confirmed by OWC, it is capable of supporting 8 GB of RAM if updated to Boot ROM Version MB51.007D.B03 and running MacOS X 10.6 "Snow Leopard" or higher.
