My horn keeps going off intermitently how do I stop it?

My horn keeps going off intermittently. Some times it is a long honk and other times it is several short honks.

Why is it doing this?

Where is the fuse for the horn? Or where are the horn wires located so I can pull them out? I checked both fuse boxes on right and left side of dash and no 'horn' fuse is listed.

I do not have an alarm system or a manual.

The service light is on. I don't have $ right now to take it in.

I'm looking for a quick fix.

It's a 1998 Honda Accord LX

Thanks KJ, no more horn blowing! At least now I can troubleshoot it without eliciting the wrath of my neighbors, much appreciated!

Have a 98 accord coupe. Horn goes offf and stays on in the middle of the night have to pull the horn relay switch to make it stop. Wanted to disable the alarm system but nothing under my dash looks like the videos I’ve watched. So we shorted out the hood latch sensor (another video suggestion) and thought we solved the problem, but it went off at 3am this morning. Pulled the relay again and I’ll just not have a horn I guess unlesssomeone can give me another suggestion

Oh, and this is not intermittent blasts and flashing lights as if alarm has been tripped. It is just wide open blasts

KJ Marsh, Under-hood Fuse/Relay Box fuse number 47 is the Horn as well as for the ABS control unit, Brake lights, Cruise control unit,Horn relay, Ignition key light, Key interlock switch (A/T), PCM or ECM. So, no way you can pull the fuse. What you can do is to pull and replace your Horn Relay. the horns are located in front under the hood beneath a cover. Hope this helps, good luck.

Oldturkey03, I also have a 2000 Honda Accord 2.3L 4cyl with a similar but different problem. My horn randomly engages (not sure if grounding somewhere or humidity is cause). Yesterday my horn stayed on for 25min (I was out of town) and automatically shut off. However, now every time I engage the horn button on the steering column, the 20A STOP fuse blows. So as long as I don't use my horn (or it doesn't randomly engage) my fuse #47 will not blow.

A replaced horn relay does not fix the issue. Also, when I do press the horn button, the horn engages for about 0.1seconds before the fuse #47 blows and the horn no longer is engaged.

Would you have any leads or guess as to what is going on?

P.S. I just created an account so please excuse if I'm incorrectly posting/replying.

@parker_ could be caused by a short in the horn itself or by the wiring to the horn. Unpluig the horn and push the button. If it blows the fuse you know it's the wiring. If it does not, you will know it's the horn

If I have had the same problem even after replacing the horn relay what should I check next? Horn wiring or the horn itself perhaps?

my problem started when i started my car, the horn started honking for about 30 seconds then stopped for about 5 seconds then started again for another 30 seconds, i drove home with this going on as well as the hazrd indicators going off and on, once home i then took the battery lead of the positive pole, i've also taken the horn fuse out, this stopped the problem but id like to know more as to how to fix it and what could be causing this to go off all of a sudden

SOLVED! @oldturkey03 The horn switch/button needed to be replaced. I was not able to replace the horn switch without replacing the air bag. Dealership wanted $1,004 just for the part. LQK had the airbag for $50.

The issue was the horn switch becoming depressed by itself, making contact, and staying depressed.

Thank you @oldturkey03 for all the patience and help you have given to me over the years. A couple weekends ago I replaced the factory radio and a window regulator with surprisingly no issues. I grew up in a "mechanically uneducated environment" so working on vehicles was something mental I wanted to overcome. Thanks again!

Question is this happening in the cold weather? I had the same problem and I believe it is the sensor at the door, where you should be able to disarm it manually.

It wasn't necesarrily cold weather, but humid weather that would triggering the horn to go off. The horn button was depressed at all time and I think the humidity would "bridge it" to make contact.

The solution for this issue was to replace the air bag assembly completely. I got a used air bag from a local LKQ for much cheaper than the stealership.

The battery in your key fob is dying. Change or remove the fob battery - problem solved.

Is the battery replacement a for sure fix? I had my horn previously go off twice, randomly, for about 30 seconds. It was only until I hit the horn itself a few times that it finally stopped. I have since replaced the battery and will see if it happens again. It has only been a day or two so I cannot for sure say yet. I sure hope that is all that needs to be done! Thanks much for the information.

I actually just unhooked the horn under the bumper. No more random horn noises, however no more horn ever haha. Keeps me from honking at eradic drivers all the time I guess.

I’m having this horn issue I have 2017 Honda Accord sport and it just started honking crazy

First time it was really short honks now today it just kept getting worse so I disconnected the horns and got a message check charging system

Anyone have this problem?
