I've also heard amazon like their customers and seem to offer a replacement more often then not so try before sending it to anyone to break open

My Kindle did this and I believe it was because the power button had come loose inside. I suspect the button made a brief connection before dislodging again and that was the cause of the reboot for no apparent reason. There is an article here on repairing the power button and that has worked for me so far.
