Audiojack fell inside of the body

Hello everyone,

i'm wondering if anyone have met same problem. I've noticed that it is a bit hard to plug my headphones in audiojack of iMac. But it was still ok for a while (seem like audiojack was moving inside body slowly everytime). Then one day i couldn't plug headphones at all and noticed that audiojack fell inside iMac's body.

I'm really disappointed about the fact that Apple can't glue audiojack to body properly so it can fall inside when the price of computer is over 3000$. But the thing is that i need to get it back somehow.

Is there any way to do that without opening whole iMac? Unfortunately i haven't Apple's service in my location so i need to fix it by myself (or it will cost a lot).

p.s. i've tried to use glue and string to pull it back with little success, but probably glue wasn't good for that or too small glue area, so audiojack moved back just a little.

Solução escolhida

No - you must open the unit. Using the unit with a lose metal part inside risks blowing out the logic board.

Study - not just read the guide (many DIYers do damage to their machines tearing connectors off the logic board pulling in the wrong direction, or not unlocking cams.

Obtain the recommended tools - every job is easier when you use the proper tools.

Once you retrieve /reposition the part you might want to either permanently connect a patch cord, or leave the headphones connected.

If this answer is acceptable please remember to return and mark it.

Actually i've tried another thing with success. I've bought http://www.ebay.com/itm/251172651253?ssP... this thing, cut rubber part of connector to make it 'longer' that allows me to push it inside a bit deeper. Voila, i've got it fixed for 5$.

Thanks for sharing this solution… take care not to short the inside of the jack against the logic board.

As far i i see jack is shifted to the left and not connected directly with logic board. Actually that is why it moves so easily back and forward.
