Display assembly doesn't line up with rest of laptop

I recently removed the display assembly due to it being bent in one corner and seeing if I could bend it back. When I reassembled it, the display no longer lines up perfectly with the rest of the laptop. When closed the display is a couple millimeters 'in' towards the keyboard. I'm wondering if this is something I did by reassembling it incorrectly or if it's the display assembly itself. Is there a way to fix this?

In trying to bend it I put a dent on the outside of the macbook (not very big, but noticeable), and a small crack in the glass. I'm not sure I can bring it in and ask them to fix it and say I've never done anything to it.

I'm not sure i would want to try bending it again.

Your display being slightly misaligned with the upper case does not necessarily mean that it is bent. I would remove the lower case and do a little digging to get to the six T6 Torx screws holding the display to the upper case. Make sure your display is closed before proceeding. Loosen all of the screws holding the display to the upper case and use a ruler or your fingers to align the display to the upper case. When you are satisfied with its position, tighten all of the screws to hold it in position. If it is still slightly off, repeat the procedure until you are satisfied. If this doesn't solve your problem, you can pick up a new display from us or go to the apple store and spend way more money than you want to spend (I'm not too familiar with the intricacies of Apple's laptop warranties).

You've probably already found them, but the repair guides for your machine can be found here:

While this is a good option I don't know if it will actually fix the problem since the aluminum is bent. This would fix a misaligned display from a poor reassembly. Well done Andrew very informative.

Looks like you bent it. Since its aluminum it will be hard to fix exactly.

Options:

1. Take it to an apple store and ask in a "i would never take this computer apart, i have no idea about computers" fashion if the display is suppose to be like it is. The computer is still under warranty. They may fix it unless there is evidence of you opening the computer.

2. Disassemble the display completely and try to bend it on a flat surface. The downside is that this will take a long time and possibly wont fix the problem.

Review the guide to disassembling the display before and during any DIY attempt.

Best of Luck!

I think you answered your own question - you don't want it to bend again.

Nevertheless, did you remember some freeplay in the hinges / mounts when you reassembled? It may pay to redo the thing if you don't want to put up with the misalgnment.
