Bottom screen on Note 2 not responsive after glass replacement?

After I replaced the cracked glass on my Galaxy Note 2 screen the bottom half of the screen is no longer responsive to touch. The s pen works fine on the entire display, and the top half responds to touch.

What could be the issue here, and how can this be fixed? Can the digitizer get partially damage, or is it one of those things where all or none of the screen works? Any insight into this will be much appreciated. Thanks!

When it comes to Note 2, and other Galaxy S and Note series You need to replace the entire panel not just screen, and I really don't know how come you managed to replace only digitizer not the panel.

You need to buy an original panel not just the digitizer, then it will surely work. However for your current Samsung Broken LCD Screen, all you have to do is to sell it at http://www.brokenlcds.com, as this is known to be the website that buys and recycles broken LCD screens / panels of Smart phones. At least it would help you to cover the cost of that broken LCD Screen.

I followed some of the videos online and was able to remove the glass layer, and not the digitizer/LCD. Before I did this I went to a repair shop and they said it would cost $300 to get the panel which consists of the glass, digitizer, and LCD as a single unit, and they didn't replace the glass only.

Thanks for providing me that site. Between that and seeing some OEM note 2 glass/digitizer/LCD/mid frame component for under $200 on eBay, I might be able to get this fixed without hurting the wallet too badly. Thank you again for your response.

Yes, it can be work out. I have samsung galaxy note 2 and my glass has been broken. I asked Authorised service centre of samsung they told me to change thewhole panel which is cost me INR 7500 but i didnt stop i asked a mobile service repair they told they can replace the glass in Just INR 1500 .But at that time i was confused whether i should change the display or only glass. I choose to go for glass change lets take a risk and its worth it.Its done now i m enjoying samsung note 2 without any problem.

Just successfully replaced the glass display on my Note II! I cracked (crushed is probably a better description) the glass display on my Note II a few weeks ago and just worked up the courage to replace the glass myself. I have never done it before and spent a lot of time watching Youtube videos of it being done and getting all of the supplies I needed (glass replacement kit included a pre-cut sticker/tape and some tools for 12 EUR, clear tape, alcohol to clean the glass, glass cleaning cloths, thin plastic and glass knives, hair blow-dryer). It took over an hour, but worked just fine and looks like new (not bad for 12 EUR, a full replacement (Glass, touch and LCD) was around 200 EUR!).

What is annoying is that the quality of the glass display I purchased on Ebay doesn't seem to be the best and in bright light you can see lightly colored streaks toward the bottom of the screen. Also, similar to the problems experienced by Steven, the very bottom of the screen is not very responsive to touch but works fine with the pen... both slightly annoying, but I might keep a watch out for better quality glass and then do another replacement (wish they had Gorilla Glass for Note II, only available for Note I and III for some reason!)... and I can always fork out the 200 for a full replacement some day (maybe prices will sink as new Notes come out)... that goes for anyone doing their own glass replacement, if you screw it up, you will have to replace the whole unit, but it might still be worth a try (if you take the time to do a good job).

Summary: it is possible to replace the glass only, even for an amateur, but with some drawbacks!

I have two Galaxy Note 2 I317 AT&T both with broken glass. For replacement parts I bought only the following:

2 Samsung Glass Screens

4 Clear adhesive covers (in case I have to start over)

1 bottle rubbing alcohol

1 hair dryer

1 roll of 40 pound spider wire fishing line (the braided nylon)

use a hammer and small nail and drive a nail into a piece of wood or even a work bench will do. Tie a long piece of spider wire to the nail. With a pair of gloves and hair dryer, heat up the phone and insert the spider wire underneath the glass and slowly saw back and forth until you remove the glass.

clean up parts with clean rag and alcohol.

replace the glass and clear adhesive.

Result: this worked great for one phone, but the other for some reason only works with the s-pen and finger swiping does not work at all. kind of got me stumped. Maybe I heated up the phone too much and fried the digitizer? not sure, if I killed the digitizer seems the s-pen should not work either. Does anyone know how to locate and determine exactly how to troubleshoot finger swiping components?

Thanks,

I had similar problem, so I decided to purchase uv glue and permanently glue replacement glass to screen. Everything went perfect. Now I can see screen in bright light like on original glass. All I had to purchase uv glue, uv flashlight and pre-cut adhesive.

The unresponsiveness at the bottom of your screen is due to damaging the ribbon cable in the top lef corner of your phone while seperating the glass. Get a new LCD.

Darek, I thought you were making a furniture while reading your story! :) hahaha.. but good on you because you're able to fix it yourself. I had the same problem with my phone but I don't know anything about gadget so I think I will look around where its cheaper to have it fixed.
