new screen doing same dark screen help!

Hi there I seem to be getting mixed messages and would prefer a straight answer as this may cost quite a bit... I had a screen go dark on me after dropping it a week before. I got a 'new' screen for it which is doing the same thing the screen being dark but there still being an image and it all logging on the same with the desktop and browser etc... I have been told it could be the back-light or the inverter cable does anyone know which one it may be...I could possibly get the cable on ebay but can any G4 12" inverter cable do or does it have to be specific to my model...Thanks for any help...Ruth

The inverter cable for the iBook G4 12" 1.33ghz is specific for this model cause it has a smaller connector to the logic board than the other iBooks G4. Also be aware that the logic board inverter circuitry could be affected if the inverter cable shorted in the hinge when hitting the ground. Are the iBook hinges damaged ? Did you replace the whole display including cables or only the LCD panel ?

Hi there I replaced the whole screen including cables I am now able to use it with an external monitor... someone has suggested it may be a fuse that has gone... there seem to be a lot of reasons why this has happened and no clear answer! When I dropped it it still worked for about a week after until I shook it which is not the the thing to do!!!! Any help gratefully received! Ruth

You can't have a clear answer for your issue without opening the iBook and testing parts. There are at least 3 or 4 parts that could cause the problem and nobody here can tell you exactly which one is the culprit without investigation.

If the screen is dark on an external monitor

It would be your GPU - if that's ok it's the cable. '' It's a simple two wire cable so any would work.''
