Won't recongize, read or charge battery, just shows black X.

Hey guys,

I bought a used MacBook Pro 13" Unibody and after putting a new HD and loading up Snow Leopard it runs great.

However it will not recongize the battery. It came with 2 batteries and would not read either of them. My initial theory was well both batteries are dead, so I bought a brand new one.

Still the same thing, it didn't read. Then I did a little detective work and found the battery connector was broken and missing one of the side tabs and a pin.

I thought once I replaced that everything would be good but it was not to be. I reset the PRAM and SMU and that didn't help either.

When replacing the battery connector I noticed evidence of a liquid spill, looked like coffee, it was dark and sticky.

I went ahead and removed the logic board and inspected it and found a few spots that were sticky and cleaned them with alohocol swabs and put it all back together.

Looks like all fingers are pointing to the logic board but before I send it off to a great little shop in Florida for repair I wanted to ask if anyone can think of anything else I may have missed.

As I said the MacBook runs great off power but won't do anything off a battery.

I have the initial 2 and the new one and still can't get it to do anything.

I just don't want to spend $250 on a Logic Board repair when it could be something else I'm overlooking.

Any insight on this from anyone? I think I covered all my bases on troubleshooting but it never hurts to ask for additional help.

You did everything that was possible to troubleshoot your battery issue. Last thing I would try is to clean the connecting battery socket on the logic board with electronics fluid cleaner and a tooth brush. If that doesn't work then you'll have to pay for a repair job.

Thanks for the reply, I'll try cleaning the circuit connection I never thought to do that. I didn't notice anything on the original connector though when I pull it out of the socket, but it can't hurt to try.

Once again thanks!
