Hi

I noticed one thing that all the macbook pro 13.3" of year 2011 and 2012 share a number that is common in them that is A1278 apart from Model Identifier(s) and Model number(s).

I was curious to know does the outer glass and the internal LCD display is exactly same on all these models of macbook pro to precise for the following models :-

MacBookPro9,2 (13")

MacBookPro8,1 (13")

MacBookPro7,1 (13")

MacBookPro5,5 (13")

Yes & No -

They all use the same physical sized units and the displays specs:13.3" color widescreen LED-backlit TFT active-matrix "glossy" display with a 1280 by 800 native resolution is the same.

BUT!! Apple gets displays from many different companies as such many have different connection locations on the back side of the LCD display and depending on your model the ribbon connection on the logic board maybe slightly different as well.

So where does that leave us? If you are tearing apart the display assembly to replace the LCD you'll need to give your supplier the maker & model number of the display. Or, better yet just get a complete display assembly, then you only need to supply them your model info. Besides it's less work (& risk) to replace the entire display assembly.

yeah i agree with you Dan that changing the complete display assembly would be of less work and less risk.

But if we can get to know that the displays can be swap with a older version of macbook pro to a new version of macbook pro like from may be a 2010 macbook pro unibody to 2012 macbook pro unibody that it will save me few bugs as the display is cheaper for 2010 model ones .

there are ways to cross reference this. Start by finding the number on the display you want to replace and post it here.

I just replaced the top display assembly of 2012 macbook pro with a 2011 display assembly and its works fine.

yeah i agree with you Dan that changing the complete display assembly would be of less work and less risk.

But if we can get to know that the displays can be swap with a older version of macbook pro to a new version of macbook pro like from may be a 2010 macbook pro unibody to 2012 macbook pro unibody that it will save me few bugs as the display is cheaper for 2010 model ones . — Varun Gargi
