"No Service" after repair, Missing Component.

Hi everyone,

we've received an iPhone 4s in for repair and about 3 people have looked at it.

It has been to a repairer previously who replaced the screen and rear glass, and also didn't replace any of the brass pressure connectors. (we havent replaced these yet)

The issue initially was that it would be continuously "searching", Unless it was connected to a wifi network..... and we would get at least,"No Service" (we tried the manual time setting, without a wifi connection, but this stays on searching) it seemed for a while we fixed that after a reset and updated to 6.1.2. but after the next disassembly, the issue came back.

We have now restored through iTunes and it seems that has resolved the constant "searching" issue, (it seems).

We still have the no service problem. we took the phone out on a collection run rom another customer, It did manage to get a very weak signal and receive a text message saying welcome from the carrier. but nothing since

We have replaced the antenna taped to the speaker and ensured that its is connected firmly. Looking around today we have noticed many places mentioning to check for board components. We have found a missing component which "looks like" a resistor (pictured)

Could anyone identify this component,

Is it related to a celular signal? (is it the likely cause of this issue.

Can it be replaced?

Where can we get one (in the UK)?

Update

Looking at the available options, nothing is in this range.

So, we'll reclaim one from a faulty motherboard.

Digital Plumbing, what you are missing is not a resistor. It is the MURATA-TBD 824-2170MHZ 0402 package and appears to be one of Murata's "Chip Multilayer LC Filters (BPF)". Something like this most likely. As to where to get it in the UK Farnell.com or RS-online.com Hope this helps, good luck.

Thanks for the reply and the link to the datasheet.

Is the specific filter on this sheet as your post mentions 824-2170MHZ but none are in this range.

Could you point out the part number?

That is the data directly from the schematic. As you can see, Murata _TBD, I guess it's one of those cases where a component is not readily available to the masses. I would at least look for something close to it.
