Hi Janel,
I suggest you following the guide of the battery replacement here:
iPod Touch 4th Generation Battery Replacement
Pay attention to the pictures of step 19. You might need to unsolder the red and blue wire of the speaker from below.
However, the two solder pads of the speaker are visible on the top of the motherboard. See this discussion which might be helpful, too: Snapped blue cable to speaker. Chance of repair?
