DisplayPort cable damaged? Display not being recognized with new one

I think I damaged mine. I opened it to replace the optical drive, and when I was going to close the system. I didn't inserted the ribbon in a parallel way, resulting in a dented ribbon, I just received the DisplayPort ribbon/cable and to my surprise my display is not being recognized. I'm using an external display now.

I did a SMC PRAM reset, I took the RAM away and reinserted again but nothing happens.

is there anyway to replace it by myself? I'm not in the USA.

Thanks Oldturkey03, pollytintop and Dan: The EMC is 2389. The display doesn't work at all, no backlight no picture, it is not even being detected. Right now I'm working with a Plasma TV.

I had the same problem with the original data ribbon which has the SN: 593-1280 REV A and then part I ordered from Macpartsonline is 593 - 1280A ICT 1611 which appears to be the same except for the way how the code is shown. There is no visible damage on the socket itself.

The ribbon plugs in both sides naturally, its a perfect fit, so unless the new ribbon is also damaged I blame the display port socket, since the display was fine before I dented the old ribbon, maybe I stretched the socket or broke some pin.

I checked the diagnose LED's and it just the first three lit.

what is it that you want to replace? the display? if you put the old dented ribbon in, is your display working at all? have you checked that the part you have is correct?

Also can you give us the last 4 digits of your serial number so we can correctly ID your system here as you have iMac 27" & 21.5" listed.

I just added some extra info about the issue.

Than you very much oldturkey03, I guess I will need a micro soldering expert to do that.

I found the reference in aliexpress.com and alibaba.com I guess is going to be like the lottery to get the part from china sellers.

I'm going to try to find someone who lend me his computer to test the cable and the display just to make sure that the socket is indeed damaged.

Thank you very much again.

You are welcome. Good idea about making sure that it is the socket :-)As for ordering parts from Alibaba.com I have been doing so for years and have not yet had any trouble.

Jigzat, according to the ribbon number yours is a iMac (21.5-inch, Mid 2010), is that correct? 922-9497 593-1280-a 593-1280 are compatible data display cables for that model. Now in order to find the proper display port connector, it will help to either know the mother board number (should be stenciled on your board) and/or the display panel number. This is important to try to match it. If fourth LED is not visible after power on:

• Verify internal DisplayPort cable connections between LCD panel and logic board

• Inspect LCD display cables for cable damage

• Verify external video functionality, and according to result check the following items:

If external display works then verify/replace the LED backlight board

If external display works then verify/replace the LCD panel

If external display does not work verify/replace the logic board

If all the numbers you gave are correct then your motherboard should be a 820-2784-a. The display adapter is I-Pex 20455-030E and it is readily available. Datasheet and technical drawing is available right here. Hope this helps.

Hello guys, i'm having a similar issue i guess. I have a 27 inch imac (late 2009) and ended up damaging accidentally the I-PEX adapter in my logic board. Can someone help me out identifying my part number and where can i buy it from? I'm really stuck with this!

Hello

2 of 30 Pads on the Board are damaged, so the LCD is not recognised by the iMac. The Board seems to be OK, because an external Monitor works fine.

Is their a way to Bridge those 2 pins of the connector direct with a wire to an logic board. I haven't found any schematics about this connector?

Regards

Hey guys, i solved the issue by buying the i-pex connector from alibaba and paying about 30 bucks to a soldering professional to solder it to the board. Clean and simple.
