Functional charger give no light, working battery doesn't charge

Hello all,

When my charger was out of town for a week I did something desperate and stupid. I cut off the cables from my already-soldered-three-times magsafe adaptor (these are the least durable and most expensive chargers I've come across, thanks apple) and an electric razor charger and taped the positive and negative cables together. Since I didn't know which was which I tried both combinations. Yeah I know I like taking risks, it usually works.

After this I got a new magsafe adaptor for an outrageous price but it doesn't work. it works in another macbook so no problem there for sure. My macbook would start until the battery went flat so it works for sure.

I was reading this thread a while ago about a fuse that could be flipped having to do with dc in, I just took apart my mb to get to the magsafe board and am now trying to find ANY kind of fuse to flip. My thinking is that whatever I did was stopped by this fuse and there is no actual problem beyond that.

I also read that if your magsafe led shines a dim light it has to do with the magsafe board and it should be replaced. I have no light at all, is there still a possibility that the magsafe board is the faulty one? Or did I screw up the logic board? In any case I'm thinking of this order of solution:

1. replace magsafe board (unless someone can tell me it's definately not it)

2. try to find a lever to flip back to ON and take my chances since next task is to;

3. replace the logic board

My warranty is out and I'm not taking it to an apple shop, they took enough of my money already, I looked at that official battery faq and it gave me nothing, I tried all key combinations including random ones and it's not helping.

Anyone who can help I will seriously consider flying there and giving you a hug, unless you are in Sweden.

Thank you for reading.

Hello Niklas,

My situation is exactly the same yours.

How did it end for you?

I can't open the schematic.

I know it's the dc magsafe board but where can you order?

I am in The Netherlands.

Hey Andrew,

I ordered my dc magsafe board from ifixit, and it worked! Kind of. It's a while ago but in the process of replacing it I damaged the back light on the keyboard, a tiny socket close to the fan. I also failed to connect something that made the power button not work. I eventually found a guy that fixed it for me for cheap moneys.

I can recommend changing the magsafe board, it wasn't that expensive so it's worth a shot. Be careful with all the sockets though I thought I was but I still messed some stuff up. Also see if you can find someone who does computer repairs cheaper, it's a good backup if you don't succeed.

Checkout this thread... there's a schematic link on the second post, sounds like your machine.

Yes you could have screwed up the DC-in board, if so, there is no "magic fix". I would start by replacing it; since it's easiest and cheapest place to begin...
