Powers on, No power to screen

Ok, so my girlfriends iPhone 4 took a swan dive into the salty waters of Puget Sound, and it was completely submerged in the water for the few minutes it took her to get it out. After it was fished out, the camera flash turned on and remained on until I assume the battery died. In the week it took her to get it to me it was in a ziploc with uncooked rice, and I've taken in apart and cleaned it with alcohol and there is very little residue left. Now, when I turn it on, I hear that it's on, and iTunes will recognize it, but the screen won't turn on. It's not just that there is a black screen, because then the backlight would be visible is well, but there's not even that. Is there any hope for this as-is? or am I looking at a screen replacement? BTW, I can hear button presses when trying to unlock it, so the digitizer works, its just the LCD that's not powering on.

Hello, if you are lucky it is just the screen and an LCD/Digi assembly replacement will fix the problem. If you are unlucky it could be a problem on the logic board itself (black-light coil?). The best way to test it is to try a new/used screen.

If it helps, the water damage sticker on the inside of the logic board was barely pink (I assume they turn red like those in other phones), and there's a little bit of whitish residue I couldn't get off the screen connector on the logic board.

Not so much an "answer" as a similar experience... Add an iFixit iPhone 4S "Liberation Kit" and a new battery and I end up in the same place. But in my case the water-indication triangle inside the 4S was cherry red, so you know this was not just casual salt, then fresh, water exposure. After a week in sealed-rice-world every thing looked dry, so I went ahead with the battery replacement. Connecting the iPhone 4S to my computer did allow me extract photos I had not yet backed up before the iPhone "took a look," so that was a plus. But the 4S is again beginning to look like a very expensive paperweight. It has a black screen, a non-funtioning power button and probably several other very damaged, and very expensive, parts in there. Their replacement would make this iPhone experience a bit beyond normal laptop and other "recreational" electronic rejuvenation. I will continue to poke around for answers, but I feel like I have reached the rational limit of my experience on this one.
