Thanks @bencejones @flannelist @danj for investigating. I had the same issue with my MBP 16 2019.
To describe the problem: When I closed the lid, the screen of the MacBook turned black - but then turned instantly back on. I could see the screen light shimmer through the gap of the closed lid. And if I turned the Mac off before I closed the lid, I could hear the sound of it booting up again. So I was unable to carry the Macbook around in my backpack because it got hot and drained the battery.

So encouraged by the responses here and the update, I ordered a used sensor at ebay. It goes under the name

Encouraged by the responses here and the update, I ordered a used sensor at ebay. It goes under the name:
"Apple Macbook Pro 16" A2141 2019 Lid Angle Sleep Wake Sensor Flex Cable,02617-A"
It cost me a total of 47,10$ which includes 22$ for the part, 17,58$ for shipping and 7,52$ tax.
Repair took 30 minutes.
It is pretty easy because essentially you just disconnect the battery, remove the cover of the hinge and the cover of the sensor and exchange the sensor.

I used this repair guide for battery replacement:

I used this repair guide. (Originally it is for battery replacement, but of course you do NOT need to exchange the battery).
[guide|135185]
But I followed only these steps:
* Disable AutoBoot and disconnect the Battery (Steps 1 - 16)
* Remove Hinge Cover (Step 27) (only on the right side).
* Disconnect lid angle sensor connector (Step 32, 33, and 34). The steps also describe how to disconnect the touch bar cable, but don't do that.
Then I exchanged the sensor.
Everything is fine now. Touch ID works and also secure mic. So the sensor seems not to be married to the TouchID Button.
And when I close the lid, the Mac goes to sleep. :-)
