How to fix the retractible mechanism in umbrella?

I have a retractable umbrella. It open when you click a button. The button also partially collapses the umbrella, but then you need to manually compress it back into position. My umbrella is stuck at the manual part — it is only partially collapsed but I can’t manually collapse it completely back to its compressed position.
