My wife had the same problem with her 4th generation Kindle; it just wouldn’t pick up any WiFi networks at all. In the end a Factory re-set cured it, but I’d suggest only trying this as a last resort as you will need to put all of your books back into their appropriate collections. (they will re-appear as archived when you re-register the device) Certainly worked though!
