HDD’s are very fragile! SSD’s are structurally much stronger! You may want to look at getting one.

Sadly, if the drive was powered the heads likely crashed into the platters either ripping them off or damaging the patters. Think how an old style record player would damage the record when the needle jumped across the groves which then kills the record. Here the needle is also ripped off as well.

At this point there is nothing you can do and in fact anything more you are likely to do will just damage your drive more! This is where a data recovery service is needed as they will open the drive in a clean room and fix the drive enough so the data can be salvaged.

So is the data you have on the drive that important or do you have a backup on a second drive?
