Why is my original DS now unable to charge?

Texto:

Recently got my original DS out of storage. Amazingly it had full battery after some years.

Now the battery has been emptied and it won't charge. A replacement battery has not helped.

My charge cable is confirmed working with my GBA.

Any ideas?
