Steps to follow if you cannot return the device and are using genuine Apple charger and cable or at least genuine cable and a computer USB port.

Test after each step:

1/ Clean the charging port. Use a needle and finish with IPA.

2/ Try a new charging port first, then a new battery. Use only quality parts such as those sold here on iFixit.

3/ Take or send to a technician or shop that offers Microsoldering board repair. They will diagnose and fix it for you, as at this point it can be the a chip failure (commonly known as U2 in iPhone 5).
