I've had that issue with my Late 2011 MBP  twice. The solution to my problem was related to the ribbon cable (I brought it to the Apple store, that was before I knew about this site). They said when looking at the issue that it is either the cable (loose or broken) or hard drive (failed) that can be the issue - the question mark with the folder icon says that the computer can't find a hard drive.

I'm not sure how you would distinguish between the two causes - ideally you would have access to a spare cable that you could test, and if it's not that then I would attempt a compatible hard drive.
