Look i had the same problem. My netbook froze,so i had to hard reset it.After this kept happening for about six months, one day i turned it on, and i pressed start windows normally(I use win7). Then, in the screen starting windows, the graphics went crazy.Safe mode:the same. I changed ram,it start ok but the freeze wasnt fixed.A friend of mine gave me his netbook to compare.Changed the hard drives. My hardrive in his netbook gave no freeze and i havent turned it off for about 3 months. So it isn't de hardrive either. So i can say it isn't software, but hardware. And the only thing that can freeze screen and sound at the same time is graphics and sound card, wich are both on the motherboard. I changed motherboard and everything was fine. Not sure if it's the same on all aspire ones but i hope this will fixit.

I had the same problem. My netbook kept freezing, so I had to hard reset it. This kept happening for about six months, until one day it started to heavily artifact on the “Starting Windows” screen (Windows 7). Same thing in safe mode. [br]

I replaced the RAM stick, hoping this was the issue, but it wasn’t long before it froze again. I borrowed an identical unit from a friend to compare. Swapped the hard drives, and my drive on the borrowed unit did not freeze (I ran this test for about 3 months). So the issue was definitely not the drive either. [br]

This lead me to believe that the issue was definitely hardware-related, so I swapped the motherboards. No freezing since. I assume there’s a defect with a batch of Aspire One motherboards, and my unit happened to be one of the unlucky few.
