The possible hardware causes are :

-Bad power on/off button

-Bad motherboard (some blown or non working component or part)

-Bad psu or battery (probably not if you tried powering on with and without AC adaptor)

-Bad battery (there are devices that canot work without battery, even if they are connected to AC)
