iPod 5th Generation (Video): Able to "unlock" a Toshiba 1.8" hd from a 5th gen iPod?

About 6 months ago I upgraded my 5th gen iPod with a 260gb hd and new battery. It is awesome! But that left me with an 1.8" 80gb hard drive doing nothing. A month ago I found a place that sells a USB case for the hard drive. I purchased one and installed it. The light on the front came on red then green but nothing shows up on my Mac. I went to Disk utility and nothing is listed. So I plugged it into a Windows machine and only found it only shows up in Device Manager/disk drives. And then only with Toshiba MK8010GAH. So I know it is the drive.

So I emailed the case seller and got back the following, "Is that Toshiba MK8010GAH? If so, your hard drive is locked by Apple. You may contact Apple to unlock the hard drive first." I did and they did not respond.

Can anyone help me with how to unlock the drive? I asked "MacGeekGab" and they told me to reformat it when connected to the iPod. I did that and it still is not seen.

Please help!

iPod Classic: iPod Classic 120gb needs your help to awake from dead

Hi Everybody,

I have a iPod classic, that stopped to work some weeks ago. It just won't show any sign of life anymore and can't reset it (by pushing the choice-button and menu for 10sek.)

I still tried to reset it and plugged it onto my windows and it showed up as a DFU-Device, but still windows couldn't install it.

On my Mac iTunes recognizes it, but is "waiting for the iPod" for hours. Some time it demands to reconnect the iPod and gives error-codes like "2005" and "1601"

On windows i tried the iPod-recovery tool but it says, that it doesn't support this type of iPod (even it should).

Neither does the disk utility of mac nor windows recognize the iPod.

Is the iPod now completely dead and "non-useable", or is there still a solution to incite it?

ANY GIVEN HELP IS USEFUL!!!

iPod 5th Generation (Video): Error during restore now my Mac wont' read my iPod?

I bought a used ipod with the smiley face problem. I was thinking of upgrading to one of the 240gb drives to begin with but tttempted to do a restore by forcing it into Disk to see if I could get it to work in the meantine.

My Mac first read the iPod began to restore it but then it stopped midway and gave me an error message stating that it could not read the drive popularly.

Now, when I reconnect the iPod my Mac doesn't see it. I even tried resintalling iTunes as per the instructions in Apple's support system. Even if I force into disk mode again.

Any ideas? Is it the drive itseld? If I install a new drive will that do the trick?

Update

Anyone?

Update

Thanks for the answer! I don't find SMRT DAT.The options I had were: NTF, MEMORY, IO, POWER, ACCESSORIES TEST, SYSCFG, and RESET. IO was the right option and then there was a link for harddrive then HDSMARTData.

Here's what I found:

Retracts: 29

Reallocs: 1023

Pending Sectors: 0

PowerOn Hours: 200

Start/Stops: 6551

iPod 5th Generation (Video): iPod freezes when shutting HDD down

So here is another problem (along with this problem: What should a nonbroken HDD sound like/ HDD broken or battery? ) I have with my iPod:

When I start hearing music, a few minutes later it starts with stutter, so the music isn't paused but it freezes half a second and plays, freezes, plays, and a few minutes later again, it freezes complete.

When I restart it, I can hear the HDD spinning up, and the mainmenu appears and for a few seconds everything works well without freezing, but right away when I hear the HDD shutting down, the iPod freezes.

So what could it be? Is it the HDD?

iPod Classic: Does "using" an iPod while the 2 halves are separated hurt?

My ipod classic is in pieces right now, waiting for parts to arrive. Getting it open was difficult and I wanted to make sure I could do it before ordering parts.

I'm not sure what parts will fix it. I ordered a hard disk, but if that doesn't work, I'll try a logic board.

Here's the question: can I install the new hard disk, re-connect the two ribbon cables from the back panel and VERY CAREFULLY connect to my computer, synch it, run it, and see if it works before snapping it together? If it doesn't work, I'll try a logic board, but I'd hate to have to open it again!

iPod Classic: Itunes will not recognize iPod

Hi,

Bought iPod off ebay and it did exactly what seller described: Itunes initially won't recognize it and when it finally does, it asks to restore, so I try and it goes through most of restore until error comes up that iPod is corrupt. I downloaded Itunes 9 to my pc and now Itunes will not recognize it at all. The computer itself finds it but I don't know what to do from there. I tried resetting the iPod and it still does the same thing. It looks to work just fine, menus and all on the device itself. Everything seems to be fine, although I did listen to it and there is a whining noise when I turn the iPod on. I've looked at many of the problems on this website to figure it out and am still not sure if it could be the harddrive or logic board. I tried all this on my pc and mac and same results. I looked at the repair guide for this iPod and figured I'd ask before attempting the hellacious task of opening it. I've already fixed two 5th gen iPods with this site and the results have been super! Any help or advice is greatly appreciated and will be well received.

Thanks all,
