iPod Classic: iPod battery not charging after hard drive replacement

Two weeks ago I replaced the hard drive in an ipod I had purchased on ebay. (Yes I was DUPED) I have not needed to recharge my battery until yesterday because the battery power was fine. Anyway I am two days into trying to charge the battery with zero success. I don't know which version I have. Is it possible something went wrong with the installation of the hard drive or do I just need to accept that now I need a new battery?

iPod 3rd Generation: iPod freezes at Apple symbol and I can't restore it.

I have a 30GB 3rd Generation iPod (A1040) that is having trouble. My iPod starts up, but stops at the apple logo and does not go any further. I have tried the iPod diagnostic drive scan (<<, Menu, Select, >>) and it stops with the error symbol. I have also tried the diagnostic tools and the HD test comes back saying the HD is bad.

However, when I set it into disk mode and connect it to my iMac, it shows up and I can see the disk in "Disk Utilities" and iTunes. I have scanned it with TechTools' surface scan, and it tested ~58k blocks and came back with no errors. I formatted it in Disk Utilities with the zero out all data option. Still no luck.

When I try to restore the iPod, the installer runs and says its finished and that the iPod is restarting... but the iPod just sits there with the 'OK to disconnect' check symbol and never restarts. When I reset it (Menu, Play/Pause), it starts up with the apple logo with a loading bar underneath which fills up and disappears. Then the apple logo comes back up and it freezes there. (Seems like it does not load the firmware restore properly to me...)

The battery is decent and I am doing all of this with a firewire dock cable... It seems to charge fine.

What is going on? Has the logic board gone bad, is is the firmware on the hard drive corrupted and not reinstalling?

iPod Classic: iFlash microSD/SD card adapter with iPod 7th Generation

Hi guys,

couple of weeks ago my iPod classic started acting weird, to the point that I can't sync it with iTunes anymore. I have checked number of reallocs on the HDD and its around 13k so I guess this is the problem. While looking into the topic of fixing the devil, I've came across couple of options:

1) Apple Store - cost between 120-250 quid so nah

2) Fixing it by myself with a 1.8" HDD - cost around 100 quid (getting there but still nah)

3) Fixing it by myself with a iFlash SD/microSD card adapter - adapter itself 33 quid plus the cost of the sd cards *winner?*

I want to go with option number 3, as it will be easier/cheaper to fix in the future (instead of buying new disk, ill just but new cards), but it generates couple concerns.

1. Is it actually a good option? Are these adapters an actual thing, or just a rip off

2. Is it better to go for double SD or quad microSD? It would be cheaper to acheive lets say 256gb with quad microSD than with two SD cards, but is the save/read speed would be the same?

What do you guys think?

iPod Classic: iPod classic cylindrical redundancy check

Tried restoring ipod classic, in both restore mode and disk mode ipod freezes on do not disconnect screen and itunes recognizes it, prepares for restore, and then ipod disconnects itself from computer. Computer recognizes "apple ipod" drive D:\ but the volume cannot be populated. tried right clicking file folder and formatting without success. Tried fdisk, got error "cylindrical redundancy check". Even tried active killdisk and got "device not ready". I also ran a test on the hard drive which did not report any bad sectors. Any suggestions?

iPod Classic: Is there a USB splitter available to separate charge/data functions?

I have an iPod Classic 160GB A1238 model. If I connect it to external power source it turns on fine and works. But it does not do that when I connect it to any other power device like Mac or PC. What that means is that I am not able to add an new song to it OR I can not take a backup of the 10GB data that exists on it.

Is there any USB splitter available which will allow me to connect it to external power as well as to PC USB port for data transfer?

iPod Touch 4th Generation: Missing battery soldering pad?

I was soldering in a new battery on my 4th gen ipod touch when i realized the middle battery terminal was missing from the board. I orderered a carbon based "non conductive wire glue", if i just apply this where the pad was and stick it to the battery, will it work? or do i need to use a silver epoxy/ink? also, i have a scrap board i can play with that has all three battery terminals, can i somehow rip one off and put it on the other board? thanks a lot

Hi, I have been repairing some iPods lately and iPhones, something that is really bugging me is that fact that everytime I finish the job and put everything back together there is a smudge of some sought or a tiny bit of dust or hair. Now I have been using a lint cloth. My question is what spray can I use and what cloth, so the iPod looks as it did before? thanks

iPod 5th Generation (Video): No sound from headphone or dock

My iPod isn't outputting any sound from the headphone Jack or from the dock port. I've tried various docks and headphones and it's the same. Sometimes there's a loud electronic noise, but most of the time there is silence. The screen shows the song is playing and I can pause, skip and everything else like normal.

I took it to apple but obviously it's too old to be repaired or replaced by them.

Any help would be much appreciated!

iPod Nano 6th Generation: a part of the Display is black, looks like liquid

I opened a ipod nano 6 to fix the powerbutton, but now 1/3 of the display is dark. but if i wipe with the finger on the darke part, it becomes colour. It looks like i wipe a liquid.

Does someone now what the problem is?

I replaced my ipod touch's screen and digitizer because it was cracked. But now the touch screen is not working. It won't let me turn it off, or unlock it or anything touch wise.

iPod Classic: How to isolate source of charging problem in iPod Classic

I have and IPOD Classic that will not charge. When measuring the charging amps to the device, I notice erratic readings. For a while it would show 0.08 A, then for a little while it would jump to 0.44 A then reduce to 0.32 A for a while. Then drop off to 0.08 A. Charging volts is steady between 5.15 and 5.17 V. The IPOD will continue to show the "low battery" screen continuously. I have tried multiple batteries with no change in outcome. I have switched cables as well. My conclusion thus far is that the problem is internal to the IPOD - the charge port, the power chip, the battery connector or something else.

I was hoping someone might have a step-by-step on how to isolate the issue.

My friends ipod Nano broke and it doesn't want to turn on! @%^! put it on his ihome it says its charging but that's all it does! It refuses to turn on! I can fix it for him but i need to know whats wrong with it first and I cant risk dismantling it since its not mine. His ipod is the 3rd generation Nano. Any advice?
