I just got an iPhone 3G. Unfortunately the seller accidentally wiped the software on the phone while trying to factory reset it.

When I try connecting it to iTunes, it says it needs to be put in DFU mode. So I do that and iTunes recognizes DFU mode. Then I try to restore it and is says again that It needs to be put in DFU mode event though I already did. Is this a error with iTunes or something else?

iPhone 3G: Phone charges for 10 seconds then stops.

I have an old iPhone 3 , I changed the charging port as some of the pins were bent back. I purchased an inline amp meter and when I plugged it in it read 0.5 amps at 5 volts. It boots to the apple logo and charges for around ten seconds before shutting down . The back light remains on and you can faintly see the apple logo . At this point the amperage goes back to zero. Would I just have to get a fresh battery ?? Or would it be a mb problem??

iPhone 3G: Digitizer Power Button Troubleshooting

Hello, I recently replaced my I phone 3G battery and now cant unlock the phone because the screen will not swipe to the right. I first thought it was a digitiser issue but then I double tapped my home button to find that I could successfully play music by pressing the button associated with the small music player controls from the lock screen (all music related buttons respond as normal). I attempted to hold the home button and power button, but it seems that only the sleep mode will work from pressing the button twice. If is try to hold the power and home buttons to perform a hard re-boot nothing happens..

iPhone 3G: My iPhone has no serial number?

I asked this in some other forum and no one replied so I figured I might get lucky this time.

So, I was bored and I figured I could downgrade my old 3G from 4.2.1 to 2.2.1 for science (?

It went pretty good, and I could experience the speedy performance that I used to have when I got my device brand new.

Thing is, the thing didn't support A2DP (thus I couldn't stream music to my car's stereo, the only use I could find for my poor device) unless I updated to 3.0 at minimum.

And so I did, I UPDATED (not restored) to firmware 3.0, but at the very last iTunes got stuck.. I can't remember the error though, I think it was 1611 if I'm not mistaken (maybe hardware issue?)

It seemed like a fresh restore to 3.1.3 would fix my phone, but once it got to the activation screen, and iTunes recognized it, the program says "There is a problem with your iPhone". I searched online and it seemed like it was an activation issue which could be bypassed via hacktivation (but as my phone is factory unlocked, I personally avoid it for battery issues).

Once I jailbroke it, I still couldn't get any signal (seems I also need ultrasn0w to get the thing up and running)

So I go down to Settings>About to see whether there was a baseband problem of some sort, and to my surprise, everything is OK except the Serial Number and Model shows N/A. I looked it up and there hasn't been anyone who has been able to replicate my problem.

Now, is there a way to flash the NOR or something to get my serial number back? I can't activate through iTunes anymore, and in there the serial number also shows up as N/A, though the UDID and IMEI are intact. I still got the serial number backed up via the iTunes list of known devices..

I can bypass it via Redsn0w, I know, but thing is I have never seen something like this happen, and googling didn't help at all

HELP

tl;dr After a failed upgrade my 3G lost its serial and model numbers

iPhone 3G: iTunes Restore Error 28 - Post Battery replacement

Originally, I ordered an iPhone 3GS battery for a 3GS I used to use as a daily driver. Recognizing that the 3GS had a defective display assembly, I switched out the new battery to an old 3G I had but never used. I know nothing about this 3G except that it didn't work. It looks in great condition. I don't know what version of iOS it was on before it stopped working, and I don't know what caused it to stop working whenever it did. After re-assembly, I pressed the power button and the apple logo appeared, almost immediately switching to the iTunes recovery screen. Connecting to iTunes and restoring caused it to download ios 4.2.1 and attempt to restore it.

It turns off

Turns on

Loading circle at the bottom

Software Update progress bar appears empty

Loading circle re-appears and it turns off

Turns back on to recovery screen

iTunes says "The iPhone 'iPhone' could not be restored. An unknown error occurred. (28)"

I've tried:

Restoring after putting phone into DFU mode

Custom firmware (.ipsw) in the form of whited00r71 normal edition which required using redsn0w 0.9.14b2 to launch in "Pwned DFU" mode for custom firmware install with itunes.

redsn0w's "Recovery Fix" feature

I always end up at the recovery screen. Here are my software specs.

Windows 10 x64 Pro Edition

iTunes 12.0.1.26 (32-bit) - Had to downgrade from the latest iTunes in order to get the libraries in the right directories for redsn0w to use "Recovery Fix", but I did try to restore with the latest version of iTunes before I downgraded.

Again, I have no idea of the circumstances surrounding this phone's retirement but I'm not willing to spend more money than I already have on the cost of the battery replacement from iFixit. If it's truly a hardware issue, I'll call it a day. I would love some software fixes/recommendations or possible hardware things I should check or do.
