iPhone 12 mini: Battery Overheats and Quickly Discharges

My phone died and when charged it would not turn on after leaving it overnight. I took it apart and tested the battery ribbon cable and it read no voltage. I took the battery apart and measured at the battery terminals and it read 3.6v. I can read accross the ribbon cable and battery terminals and it looks like both sides of the ribbon cable have a positive voltage.

I bought a new battery and it powered up fine, but quickly got very warm and started to die very quickly. I plugged it in, powered it off, and left it overnight. I was not able to turn it on the next day. The new battery does now not ready anything accross the sides of the ribbon cable end. I havn't taken this battery apart yet.

Does this mean that the phone is damaging the ribbon cables (drawing too many amps) from a bridge in the phone itself. Any ideas?

Thanks

iPhone 12 mini: Little metal pin broken off

Hi everyone.

I found out today that a small metal pin on the bottom of my iphone broke off. It doesn't seem to affect the phone at all, but can someone explain to me what it's for?

I can see that it was supposed to touch a dot on the back of the screen.

I have marked the small metal pin in yellow at the bottom of the phone.

I hope you can help me answer this question, thanks

iPhone 12 mini: screen replacement - only some screen

I’ve been trying to replace the screen on my iPhone 12 mini. I bought two replacement screens from Amazon and two from eBay. Here’s what happened:

One screen had a good display, but the touch didn’t work.

One screen showed nothing at all—completely blank.

One showed the Apple logo, then went black.

One just displayed colored lines.

At this point, I was going crazy.

Then I happened to get another iPhone 12 mini. I tested the screen that was previously totally blank on the new phone—and it worked perfectly! The display and touch were fully functional. So I went back and tried the same screen on the original phone again, but still just a blank screen.

I should mention: the original iPhone 12 mini did have a semi-working screen before I started. The display was mostly fine, but it had two vertical green and yellow lines running top to bottom.

So now I’m wondering—what could be wrong with the first iPhone 12 mini that’s preventing it from working with the replacement screens?

Would you like help diagnosing the issue, too?

iPhone 12 mini: Why isn't my iPhone screen working?

So basically I had showered with my phone in the bathroom but it was fine when I got out. It just had died so I went to go charge it and it stopped working. It went completely black then for some reason was starting to develop zig zags? Or patterns? Idk if you could see it in the picture but yeah. I'm guessing maybe it was a power struck because the house is old. (My mom's house btw) Or maybe water got in it? But I checked it and there was no red light. The phone charged and buzzes but just doesn't turn on. I tried to reset it and it didn't work.

iPhone 12 mini: 🔹 Help! Stuck in Face ID & Stolen Device Service Lock Loop

Hello,

I was replacing the battery on my iPhone 12 while following the iFixit guide. Unfortunately, the guide didn’t mention that OLED replacement screens for this model can be significantly thicker than the previous models.

As a result, when I tried to open the phone, I mistakenly started prying between the layers of the screen itself instead of between the screen and the frame. That ended up damaging the display.

Later, when I replaced the screen, I noticed that the proximity sensor was also damaged, and now Face ID no longer works.

To make things worse, Stolen Device Service has been activated, and I can’t disable it without working Face ID. So I’m stuck in a loop — I can’t fix or access anything critical, and I can’t turn off the security feature either.

I’d really appreciate any advice from the iFixit team or community on what I can do next. This all happened while following the iFixit guide, and a small note about the screen thickness could have prevented it.

Thank you!

Both devices have failed the "Cellular RF" test. Well one of them specifically says "Cellular RF Front End Scan." I dialed *#06# on both devices and the imei did show up. Im still not sure if this could be a board issue or a issue eith an antena. I put the sim in a known working US version iphone 13 and it worked.
iPhone 12 mini: iPhone 12 mini stuck in bootloop

My iPhone 12 mini (4 years old) is currently stuck in a bootloop. There was no drop, water damage, or physical trauma involved. I was simply reading the news outdoors when the app froze, the screen went blank, and the device entered a bootloop.

I took it to the Apple Store, where they attempted a software update via iTunes, which failed. I also tried the same at home using an original Apple cable and a fully updated Mac, but received error code 9. I then tried several third-party tools that claim to fix bootloops without data loss, but none were successful.

Unfortunately, I do not have a backup, and the device contains important and irreplaceable photos and videos. As such, I have avoided performing a factory reset via iTunes, since data loss is not an option for me.

I understand the importance of backups now, but I’m urgently looking for a solution to recover my data. Could this be a hardware issue (e.g., a faulty earpiece or connector) that’s causing the bootloop? If so, is there a way to temporarily stabilize the phone just long enough to create a backup?

Any guidance would be deeply appreciated.

iPhone 12 mini: iPhone 12 Mini boot-looping due to "charging port flex"?

Since yesterday, my iPhone 12 mini has been boot-looping every 5-15 minutes (the screen goes black, the Apple logo appears, and then it works for a while).

When it's on, it seems to work normally, with some exceptions. The option to turn on the Wi-Fi in Settings is greyed out and set to "off". The Bluetooth menu only shows a loading wheel, and does not show any of my previously connected devices. The phone also gets a bit warm, even if I do nothing.

I've used one of the tools linked on the repair.wiki page for this problem, which told me that the problems indicated by the panic logs are "Charging Port Flex", "Power Button Flex", "NAND", and "Wi-Fi Module". The last of those panic logs is here: https://pastebin.com/ay5hS2eS

I have replaced batteries on the iPhone 4 and 6 before, but I've heard that the newer iPhones are much more difficult to repair. Is this problem easily fixable, or is this something I should bring to an Apple store?

iPhone 12 mini: Is the magnetometer built into the display in iPhone 12 Mini?

I had Apple store replace my battery today and the rep told me their hardware diagnostic test reported that my "compass is failing." I had noticed that my compass app didn't work, but I always assumed it was a software issue. The Apple rep said it's a hardware problem, and that I need to replace the display for $229. That kind of makes sense because my iPhone has a non-Apple display, and I can imagine that the magnetometer in it failed. But I declined the repair today because I wanted to double-check before spending $229. Is the magnetometer really built into the display in the iPhone 12 mini?

iPhone 12 mini: iPhone Black Screen and Flashes

My phone was exposed to water for no more than 6 seconds, but it had been fully submerged to a low depth. Immediately after, I had not thought much of it so I'd continued on with daily use for approx. 30 minutes. Then, I began to notice it functioning oddly and also received a water detected notif when I plugged it it, so I powered it off and let it dry.

The next time I went to turn it on, which (stupidly) was later that evening, I found that there were green lines going across the screen and it had either a bit of a purple tint or green tint to the screen. I powered it off, but, eager to get to work on a project for my education, I tried again the next morning and the screen was black even though it felt like it was responding to my touch sometimes, and notifications were coming through too as my watch was receiving them. I could also hear and feel things from my phone as well.

It's been like this for about 5 days, and I know I probably shouldn't have but have been powering it on occasionally just so I can check my notifications and help things with my fully functioning watch. Sometimes I can see the screen, but it is only normal for a second, then gets a purple-ish or greenish tint and/or lines on the screen. This was mostly in the beginning, and now it usually goes black.

Along with the first bit of issues I received an error that face id was not working and when it gave me the option to go to settings, it didn't take me anywhere helpful.

What can I do? Because it is water damage, I'm worried it may not be able to be professionally repaired.

Update- now the screen is black and hasn't turned on again so far but flashes or has green or white bars on it usually at the bottom.
