iPad Mini Wi-Fi: Screen Assembly Replacement Ghosting Issues When Closing

I work for a device repair outfit and I've done my fair share of repairs. There are two devices I can never catch a break on. iPods and iPad minis.

Right now at the shop I have a white iPad mini that was cracked and needed to be repaired. I had two different white digitizer replacement screens so I proceeded with the repair. (assuming if one was defective I could just use the other)

I did the whole replacement, no mistakes. Made sure to seat the LCD and digitizer connectors properly. No missing screws, I even replaced the magnets on the corners.

I was just about to close the repair up so I tested the screen to see if everything touched okay. No dead spots. Looks perfect swipes good. Time to close.

I started to close it and after I applied a mild amount of pressure around the home button all !&&* broke loose and the screen started flipping out. Ghosting around like it was possessed.

I failed to see the issue. There were no cables being pinched. It looked like the tens of other ipad minis I've fixed before.

I said. Shoot, well I have this other screen let's try it as well. I proceed to follow all of ifixit's steps in their guide. I get all the way to the last step of closing the ipad. I check the screen. Swipes better than the last screen, very smooth.

I go to seal the edges, and again it flips out. The screen wont swipe and when it does its literally opens random programs, flips between pages, and ghosts like a madman has control over it.

I open the screen just a little, maybe half an inch to release some of the pressure from closing on the digitizer ribbon / home button and it works great again.

I figure I must have been pinching the cable that connects the digitizer and the iPad because that is almost ALWAYS the problem.

unfortunately this is something different. I can clearly see that the ribbon isn't pinched. And this issue is clearly reversible since every time I open it back up it works like a dream.

The problem with its ghosting is, this is only occurs after I completely close the screen. And only when I apply pressure to the bottom near the home button cable.

I have a little bit of protective yellow tape for resisting punctures, tearing over the home button to protect against damaging / shorting the resisters right next to the home button. But other than that its not any different than the other times I've done this repair.

I'm looking for a solution that I might be over looking. Like what would cause such a radical shift from, "works great" to "ghosts like crazy" as soon as the screen is flush with the ipad?

a final note - I think its worth mentioning that I can't replicate the problem if the screen is open. Only when its completely closed. And the device is almost completely unresponsive to touch inputs while its freaking out.

iPad Air Wi-Fi: OEM or generic glass digitizer Replacement?

Some claim to be "OEM" original equipment manufacturer in this case that would be Foxconn, I've contacted two Premium Service eBay sellers with very high reputation, one claims to be (100% OEM made by Foxconn) the other says that only Apple could get their supplies from Foxcoon.

If it is possible to get hold of the genuine article or is this another marketing term if not is there a way to tell a fake from OEM?

Have e-mailed Foxconn directly with query will post reply.

There does appear to be some consistency in pricing on all "OEM/original" digitizers of over £40/$67.41

Thanks once again for your time :)

iPad 2 GSM: Power Button won't work

Got a broken screen iPad 2, ordered the parts and did the repair myself. I have done multiple iPad 2 screens, so I am pretty familiar with it. This time, however, I seemed to have clipped the Power Button/Volume Button flex cable when getting the broken screen off. Went ahead and bought a new cable. Just installed it so that I could get the iPad back together and came across a really weird issue. Actually I ordered 2 power button flex cables. When I put it on and clipped it in the volume buttons work and the mute switch works, but the power button does not. I unplugged it from the board and plugged it back in. Nothing. Cannot get it to bring up power off info and cannot get it to lock/unlock. Tried the 2nd cable I purchased thinking maybe it was a bad cable...same exact thing. Any ideas?

Update

Apparently the flex cable was defective. Supplier sent new ones and they work great. Thanks!

iPad 2: iPad digitizer is GLUED to lcd? Bought outside the US?

This lady wanted me to replace the digitizer on her iPad 2. I just started taking some shards off the bottom left hand side of the screen (using a heat gun/tweezers). Normally, immediately once I get to the transparent glass there is no adhesive left but it seems there's some kind of clear glue holding the lcd/digitizer together. I did notice that the edges of the screen (under the black glass) was stuck on using (only) a wide piece of black double-sided tape (NO clear goo).

Now, I've not worked with a iPad in awhile but isn't the adhesive usually just a clear goo? The lady said she was from London -- she's been traveling -- blah blah blah. She mentioned she got her laptop from...I can't remember specifically but I think it was somewhere in India?

Anyway, if she did buy this iPad outside the US, could that be why it's glued? Is it some kind of after market thing?

I googled for an hour and couldn't find any info on this.

Hoping some experience can solve this one.

Thanks all

iPad 8 Wi-Fi: An unusual case of non-functionality

Please help! I have asked before and tried a few different things.

I have an iPad 8th gen. I replaced the screen and the home button failed. Whilst I couldn’t see any damage to the cable I half expected the issue.

2 days after, the iPad starting ghost touching. It disabled itself and would do crazy stuff. I assumed a simple solution of covering the surrounding on the interior of the screen. This had no affect so I ordered a new screen. It still never worked!

I looked a bit further into it and discovered the iPad does this even with no digitiser connected. This was strange!?

I somehow managed to get it to work by turning it on, then connecting the digitiser and finally the LCD. However, it suddenly stopped working again. I have tried doing the same thing but it will not work. Any suggestions?

iPad 2 Wi-Fi EMC 2415: Can I swap iPad 2 Wi-Fi logic board for iPad 2 GSM

I have an iPad 2 AT&T 64 GB that got run over by a car. The case is bent, the digitizer is smashed, half the screen works. But, the rest seems to function as it should. My wife has an iPad 2 Wi-Fi 16 GB and she is constantly running out of storage space. So, I thought I would take the 64 GB logic board out of the smashed iPad and put it in the good one to give her 4x the storage (I had recently performed a successful digitizer replacement on an iPad and felt comfortable with the procedure). I made the logic board swap and it powered up fine, but I could not turn on Wi-Fi. The on/off switch for Wi-Fi in settings was grayed out. I reset network settings, but no luck. So, then I reset the whole iPad back to factory settings. The "welcome" screen came up and prompted me to plug it into iTunes. I did so and after a few minutes, iTunes told me that it "...could not activate the iPad at this time. Try again later or contact Apple Support."

Any ideas on what might make this work? I can open it back up and put the 16GB logic board back in. But, I thought I'd search for other options before I threw in the towel.

Thanks - Matt

Please, help me :(
