HomePod: Homepod common issue blinking + -

Hello, i working now on homepod, it looks like is common issue for this model, only blinking plus and minus button. I try allready solder usb cable to test points and flash it. In pc is detected, itunes tell is no compatible firmware here, i download passende ipsw but itunes still tell some error, with u3 tools stuck on connect cable but device is in recovery mode complete time. Any idea? Have somebody solve this problém? Thanks

HomePod Mini: HomePod Touch Sensor Issue Workaround No Replacement Needed

I have multiple HomePods with faulty touch sensors that would randomly trigger playback, which seems to be a fairly common issue based on other reports.

After looking into replacement options, I found that replacement touch panels are difficult to source. Since I rarely use the touch controls and mostly rely on "Hey Siri", I decided to try disconnecting the touch interface instead.

Using a teardown as a reference, I found that disassembly is relatively straightforward and the touch panel connector is accessible without too much difficulty.

I did not document the full process, but if you follow a teardown, the general steps are:

The base is held on with strong adhesive, so you will need to carefully pry it off
Remove a couple of T6 screws and one T8 screw
There are a few additional T6 screws securing the internal assembly
Once inside, locate the ribbon cable for the touch panel, which uses a small lever latch connector
Disconnect that cable, then reassemble everything

Note:

If replacement touch panels become available, you can replace the touch sensor at this stage instead of disconnecting it, since the connector is already accessible during disassembly.

Result:

You can disconnect the touch panel, reassemble the HomePod, and it will continue to function normally. The only thing that no longer works is the touch input.

I wanted to share this because I had not seen many people suggest simply disconnecting the touch sensor as a workaround. If your HomePod is experiencing ghost touches or random playback, this can be an effective way to keep it usable without replacing parts.

Since most smart speakers are primarily used via voice, losing touch functionality is not a major downside, at least in my case.

Be careful when removing the base adhesive and disconnecting ribbon cables to avoid damage.

Smart Thermostats: Sensi ST55 thermostat temperature sensor inaccurate/broken

okay this is a longshot. but in the Interest of making things better. i figured i might as well ask. what am i out?

i have a 10 yr old 'smart' thermostat. with a life expectancy of 10 yrs... well almost to the day... it just stopped reading temperature accurately or at all? it was displaying 69° - 72° even when i took ot outside in 10° weather...

i have minimal skill, i have done some soldering in the past. reattached USB micro ports and other fiddly things. but this might be beyond my ability...

i was hoping to offer my dead thermostat for the cause... if someone else is willing to reverse engineer it.

otherwise I have pictures of the back of the motherboard and am willing to take it apart more. to at least identify the temperature sensor or w/e failed. because it seems like it was made to fail.. and we can't have that.

any suggestions or do you need more info from me?

there it is is! that's what they look like! and and they are apparently only like $3.00 USD.

and I've found an eerily similar item on the mobo for the thermostat. (circled in red -- in picture below)
[ also note the arrow pointing out venting in the case, as I believe that is there to help facilitate an accurate reading of temp/humidity.]

I do happen to have another image that I took of the PCB, its not great either, but a little better. (I used flash)
with it we can decipher that what I assume to be the temp sensor says: "ANDU"

not sure if that's helpful..

Google Nest Hub: Are there seriously no replacement lcd's for this?

My 2 year old pulled it down off a table and the lcd got damaged. I figured why buy a new one mine still works minus the screen, I can just replace it right? Wrong.. There's not a single teardown video or replacement part.. Now I have a glorified home speaker… Has anyone else ran into this problem with some type of resolution? It's been almost a year since they came out.

So I have a echo dot 5th gen the problem with it is that when you try to set it up it doesn't go in set up mode or if you try reseting it I'm no sure if its even reseting either how to can I fix that problem

I have a Tado radiator thermostat that has somehow lost the black plastic piece that actually pushes the pin that opens the valve. The device is completely useless without this. Where can I get a new one? I could potentially 3D print one if I could borrow one of these to make a 3D model, or if someone has already done this.

HomePod 2023: The HomePod just turns on by itself

My HomePod 2nd Generation switches on by itself, completely randomly. I also feel that the touch surface does not respond optimally — the minus (-) control is noticeably less sensitive than the plus (+). I have already tried a factory reset, unfortunately without success.

HomePod 2023: HomePod 2nd Gen Shuts off after startup (see video)

Initially, the HomePod would occasionally shut off during playback. I could temporarily fix this by unplugging it and plugging it back in after 10 seconds.

Hoping to resolve the underlying shutdown issue, I then performed a factory reset.

Now, the device is stuck in its factory state and shuts down every time immediately after the startup chime.
