Bought a "needs repair" PS2 off Ebay (SCPH-39001). The issue is that it will power on for a few seconds and then shut off with a blinking red light. Upon powering, it works normally for a second besides a fast spinning fan. After another second the fan speed increases drastically right before shutting off.

I opened it up and noticed the thermal pads were cracked. I went ahead and replaced them but nothing changed. I then thought maybe it could be a bad PSU and ordered an Amazon replacement (https://www.amazon.com/dp/B09KVGYJSL?lv=...). After installing and flipping the switch on the back, it will not let me boot it up at all and gives a rapid blinking red light. I can try to bypass this by flipping the switch and quickly turning it on, but again it is the same issue of max fan speed and quickly shutting off. Help is greatly appreciated!

PlayStation 2: HDD port not working?

I have a PS2 that's taken a couple tumbles thanks to a rowdy kitten, and now the HDD port doesn't seem to work. I've tried using multiple HDDs and adapters, but nothing works. From what I've been told, it's either the DEV9 port or the HDD connector itself that could be the issue. How would I check to see what works? (I have a multimeter, but I've never used one for something like this.)

PlayStation 2: PS2 CMOS battery draining rapidly - Parasitic current draw?

Hello,

I had/have a problem with my old PS2 SCPH-30003 daughterboard. This small board holds a CR2032 battery and the clock chip I believe. I noticed that after a few months, the new CR2032 battery I had put in was totally flat.

So, I tested the board and found out that there was a 100μA current draw with the board completely isolated and disconnected. Supposedly this isn't right.

On my original board, I did notice some kind of corrosion around the negative battery holder terminal, as well as the pins of the clock chip. I didn't see anything like this on the replacement board.

But after testing said replacement board I bought (listed as working), the exact same thing is happening...

The weird thing is, that the original Sony battery from both boards had NOT drained. Both were sitting at around 3.08v.

Does anyone know what might be going on here?

I noticed that there is some of a crack on the motherboard as I was removing component for the retrogem mod on the other side will this be an issue?

So I am doing the retrogem mod for fat ps2 and it requires to remove some components. I used a little too much and flooded two vias with solder I managed to remove the solder from the vias I used a 30 awg wire to make sure there wasn't any solder in the holes the wire went through without resistance. There is some left on the surface and that is where the flex cable will go over. can I put solder mask on them it as a precaution?

PlayStation 2: stuck on "insert disk for ps1 or ps2"

So, i found this ps2 near a garbage can and i bringed it home. I turned it on and it work perfrctly but for some reason it can read games, i tried putting in normal games ( not blueray) but the ps2 will stay on the "insert disk for ps1 or ps2".

When the disk is inserted it does make some noise but its not a spinning noise.

Do i have to buy a replace part or...? pls lmk thx

PlayStation 2: Can I change a 230 power board for a 120 one

Hi! I have a French FAT PS2, SCPH-39004, that takes AC 220~240V as input, but I moved to Canada a couple years back, and power here is at 120V.

I didn't want to buy back a new consoles and my games. Since modern TVs don't have the PAL vs NTSC limitation anymore I would like to be able to use it, but I need to use an external step up transformer which is bothering, so I wondered if it would be doable to find a 120V power board and replace mine with it, so it can actually run naturally, or if components inside other than the power board makes that impossible?

PlayStation 2: PS1 games do not read

Recently ive gotten a ps1 game and it doesnt read at all. I have a scph 39004, I dont think I have an official laser on it, my brothers back in the day took it to a repair shop because ps2 games wernt reading. Ive never played ps1 games on it, It maybe was able to read it dunno. The disc as tiny scratches but its really smudged up PS2 games work fine.

Actually it read a few times when the device was warm to the touch around 1200-900 ohms on the CD pot (not sure exactly the resistance because i didnt know how to use the multimeter). It worked once at 840 on restart but not again.

Ive done alot of test, audioCDs work but the ps1 game doesnt work, ive tried 930, 860, 840, 760 and 700ohms audioCD work every time but the ps1 game doesnt. It always loads up the memory card menu when it fails, and stays spinning on consistent speed even after it fails, so its reading the disc but fails?

just bought this ps2 from someone who also had just bought it from someone else on ebay. Apparently it worked fine for around a day or two then stopped displaying on the screen. I have tried multiple cables, the blind connection swap trick, I have cleaned the console and even tested the fuses and some other bits on the board with a multimeter, not sure what they were but i followed a video (i am very new to this so if i say the wrong names for things forgive me). I am not sure what to check next or if it is just a faulty AV port as i do see some rust in there which i have tried cleaning with some alcohol. Any tips or help would be greatly appreciated i am so lost on what could be wrong o~o

For some reason the playstation 2 is in black and white only. We tried to plug something else into the connection on the TV and it was fine but the playstation is still only black and white.

I have an original "Fat" PlayStation 2, and want to know if there is a CMOS battery that I may need to change or remove. I have had multiple devices in the past have corrosion damage due to CMOS batteries, and don't want my PS2 to be one of them. Any help is appreciated!

My Playststion 2 opens to a screen that says 'Browser/ system configuration' screen on some of my games. It will not load game when this screen pops up. It also says to use a Playstation or Playstation format game. What does this mean??

PlayStation 2: DVD discs give "Disc read error." message.

My PS2 SCPH-39008 doesn't read DVD discs at all. It tries to read them for about 15 seconds before giving the "Disc read error." message. I've tried both DVD games and DVD films.

It started after I changed the BIOS battery, I've already tried to recalibrate the laser, and it helped with the CD discs, but not with the DVD discs. I've also tried cleaning the laser, but it still didn't help. The discs worked perfectly fine before so the discs aren't the problem.
