Microsoft Surface Book 2 15": Can I replace just one of the batteries?

I’m thinking of trying to replace one of the batteries in a Surface Book 2 15” - is there any significant problem with either replacing just the screen segment battery or just replacing the keyboard section battery, but not both?

I just want to be able to unplug the unit and move it (separated or still attached to the keyboard) to plug it in in another room in less than 5 minutes without the whole device shutting down.

AFAICT, there’s no battery swelling, but neither the keyboard nor screen section batteries can hold any charge at all. There’s not even a one-second delay in turning off when the device is unplugged.

I’m not new to repairing devices, but I’m pretty new when it comes to fixing devices designed to defeat owner repair/maintenance.

Thanks for any thoughts, observations, or ideas.

Microsoft Surface Laptop 5 (13.5-inch): No power unless I disconnect the keyboard and reconnect it

Hi all

My Surface Laptop 5 has a problem that means if I power it off, to start it back up I need to take the keyboard cover off, disconnect the ribbon cable which connects the keyboard unit to power, then put the ribbon back in and the cover back in place. Then the laptop turns on and I can use it.

Will getting a replacement keyboard cover fix this? This one specifically:

Microsoft Surface Book Gen 1: Phantom touch on new ifixit display

Thanks to ifixit's teardown instructions and tools, I just replaced the screen on my Surface book 1 and it went well. I even took the rare opportunity to install a 1tb nvme. Maybe it's because I'm mentally deficient, but I ordered the adhesive strips late and decided to do the repair and leave the device open for the weekend after repair. This gave me the chance to test the repair in a condition which allows me to easily get behind the display if I need to, and I needed to because the display I bought from ifixit has phantom touch constantly on maybe 1 pixel. I don't know what to do to sort it out, or if I need another display. I'd certainly rather deal with it before I lay down the adhesive.

Microsoft Surface Book: Repairing a Crushed Surface Pen?

It’s a long story, but I accidentally dropped my Surface Book Pen in the parking lot 3 days ago and only found it today. It’s been through 2 days of rain and below-freezing weather and it looks like it got ran over by a car a couple times. Miraculously, it will still connect to my Surface Book through Bluetooth and the connection light still works! None of the sensors work though. The tip doesn’t draw (the tip also snapped off leaving the core stuck in the pen), the eraser doesn’t work (not even clicking it to open Cortana or anything). The shell is also pretty crushed and right now there’s no way I can remove the battery (which still provides power somehow). The button on the side was shoved into the pen but I was able to pry it out ( I have no idea if it still works). I’ve already ordered a new pen, but I was wondering if I could still repair the sensors somehow. I’ve attached some pictures of the damage.

Microsoft Surface Book: Spilled cocacola on surface book. Is it possible to remove keys

Spilled a almost empty glass of coke on the surface book keyboard, managed to clean most of it up. However some seeped between the 'Q' '1' and 'Tab' keys. I disconnected the power and tipped in unit on an angle to get the residual coke remaining out of the hinge. I then proceeded to stick it into rice to get any more coke that may have been in it out.

After 2 days plugged it back in and it works fine, however now about a week after it happened the previously mentioned keys are really sticky. No noticeable difference with any of the other keys, all the ports and track pad still work.

I was wondering if it was possible to remove the keys? If so what type of connector do they use, and in which way to pull them up.

Microsoft Surface Book: Surface book no display, working touch

I recently purchased a Surface book Core i7 2.60GHz 16GB RAM 512GB SSD 13.5’’ laptop. I knew there was a display issue when I purchased it.

I went ahead and plugged the surface book into an external monitor and everything works just fine. I went into display settings and noticed that Windows was only picking up the external display and when I attempt to detect displays it is unable to find the clipboard/tablet screen. I haven’t opened the device up yet, but I’m curious if the issue actually is the screen. The touch digitizer appears to be working as expected so that makes me skeptical of the LED screen being broken, but I figured maybe the LCDs aren’t working in the screen. This doesn’t line up with the fact that Windows doesn’t seem to detect the screen at all. I tried using the keyboard hotkeys to adjust screen brightness but not even the brightness change dragger popped up on the external display.

Is it possible that the display ribbon cable may have come detached during a drop or something (I’m not fully aware of the devices history)? From what I understood, these have metal cages over them to prevent anything like that from happening. I will add that there is a slight deformity in the display along the top left edge. It looks like the device may have sustained some damage there but the touch digitizer is still working in that region and with a flashlight on the display I don’t notice any obvious cracks in the LED panel. Also, I have my doubts that this would prevent Windows from being able to detect the device.

Has anyone dealt with a similar issue on a laptop/surface book before? I’m having a heck of a time finding anything online.
