Microsoft Surface Studio: Possiblility to replace motherboard?

Surface Studio has a great touchscreen but an outdated GPU, CPU

I am thinking if I can remove everything in the base and custom build the PC (by increasing the thickness of the base). I watched the teardown. Do anyone know what kind of connector is used for the monitor? And what kind of additional/unusual ports/adapters are there in studio motherboard

Microsoft Surface Studio: HDD to SDD replacement, problems with updates after install

I had my HDD or cached drive fail in my surface pro, not sure which, but it basically complained about bad blocks and wouldn’t run. So i figured i would do the SSD replacements detailed here and on http://cesardelatorre.azurewebsites.net/....

I appreciate all the writeups on this, made it a lot easier to get done.

Everything went fine, hardware wise. Drives both replaced, and both visible to windows install, and no smoke.

I CAN install windows, however when I try to update the iastora Raid driver, I either get a bluescreen, or it hangs on reboot, and never comes back. Same happens when I try to run the latest Surface studio driver pack, it just hangs at boot, where the dots circle.

I posted a bit more detail on microsoft site, but it doesn’t look like they support this.

https://answers.microsoft.com/en-us/surf...

Has anyone tried this recently, or maybe has some ideas on getting the drivers setup right?

Thank you,

Microsoft Surface Studio: How to monitor and control fans?

I have searched high and low, but have not found a utility that will monitor and control the 2x fans in my MS Surface Studio. I recently completed an SSD upgrade and the Samsung 2TB 970 EVO Plus I inserted in the M.2 slot works great - very fast, but also runs VERY HOT (between 55 and 60 degrees C - not F…). I am hoping that I could monitor and (hopefully) control the speed of the fans with the correct software. I currently have an obscene number of external fans I am using to cool the PC that I’ve strategically placed beneath (Thermaltake Pro) and above and behind (AC Infinity fans that are typically used for cooling home theatre components) - it’s an unsightly scene, and really defeats the purpose of using a beautiful slim and sleek small form factor such as the Surface Studio. If anyone has figured out how to do this I would be very grateful for your assistance. Thank you in advance!!!

Microsoft Surface Studio: do I need to change the drivers if I install new drive?

I’m waiting for delivery of my new 1st Gen Surface Studio (now heavily discounted!) and want to update the drive(s). If I remove the 128Gb drive - which I believe is an NVMe M.2 - with a 512GB NVMe M.2 do I need to change any of the drivers?

Many thanks

Microsoft Desktop: Usb 3.0 to 2.0 Adapter for gaming?

I have an Elgato HD S.

It is a game recorder.

It requires a USB 3.0 connection to a pc.

I have a windows pc that doesn't have USB 3.0.

Is it possible to solve this problem by buying some sort of adapter?

Maybe a USB 3.0 to usb 2.0 adapter?

Do they exist?

Would it work?

Please explain in detail and write a link to the specific part.

Of course I would like to buy a $20 adapter instead of buying a new gaming pc.

Microsoft Surface Studio: Which screws in what order to teardown hinge from display?!

Completely read and watched teardown from Nov 29 2016. It states how you risk a parts explosion to remove it, but that they got lucky and did it in the right order, but only shows the 1 final screw they removed. The pics and video have nothing indicating which screws they removed safely in order. I'm a little flabbergasted that they'd warn you about the danger, get it done, but not mention how they did it to avoid the danger..

Anyone have another source or screenshot of the safe screws/removal order?

Thanks!
