Mac mini Model A1176: Audio does not work

Hi,

The audio is grayed out in the preferences. I tried plugging in headphones, and external speakers (tested and worked fine on another mac) but they do not show up.

I have updated the system to the most current. I also Zapped PRAM hoping that would fix the problem.

I took it to Apple support and they want to replace the Logic Board. The computer works fine but no Audio.

Any suggestions? I bought it used for $420, and the logic board is around $250.

I saw this http://www.applecomponents.com/items/922...

would that work?

Thanks,

Mac mini Model A1176: Can I upgrade from Wireless G to N?

Hi Guys, I was wondering if there is a way to upgrade the wireless of the Mac Mini A1176 from Wireless G to N. Currently - wireless G is operating poorly (Mac Mini)and I'm contemplating acquiring and Airport Express for improved home networking between my late '09 iMac Geforce 9400m, Mac Mini A1176 2ghz, 3gb, 120hd and 2 WinPc's.

Any ideas on where I might get my hands on a wireless N for this unit and if it would be compatible with the system and also if it well be an easy d.i.y for a novice.

Mac Mini Model A1176: Mac Mini is dead

I have this mac mini that died a week after applecare expired. I would like to repair it, but I do not know what should I repair. I have been told I have to replace the whole logic board which would be too expensive. But, still wondering if there is something I could do.

When plugged in, it is dead, no light, no power, no nothing. And it is not the power cable, I know that because in its time I took it to the apple store and they plugged it with a good power cable. It is just plain dead. Is the only solution to change the whole logic board? or is there something else that could be done?

Thanks.

Mac Mini Model A1176: "Aux" connector on airport card?

The airport card for the A1176 has two connecting posts for antenna cables. These are visible in the photos for steps 17 and 18 of the AirPort Extreme guide (especially in the zoomed image).

The one on the left is labelel "main" and is, presumably, where one attaches the cable to the airport antenna.

What is the "aux" post for? One site I stumbled on suggested it was for an auxiliary antenna that would be used when the primary can't find a strong enough signal. But the A1176 doesn't come with an auxiliary airport antenna (does it?).

When I purchased my used A1176 the airport antenna and cable were missing; now that I've bought a replacement I also have a spare bluetooth antenna and cable. Would it hurt or help to use my spare as an auxiliary, perhaps taping it where the latest Minis seem to have yet another antenna?

It worked out perfekt, the machine recognized it and runs well. Step 22. in the tutorial says : 'Note that if you are upgrading from a core solo or core duo processor to a core 2 duo processor and wish to run operating systems of Lion or later, you must delete the hidden file /System/Library/CoreServices/PlatformSupport.plist after the upgrade.'

I ran iVisible & EasyFind, but no such file!? Now Im unbable to install a higher OS version.

Wich OS should be installed, to find this file. Originally it came with 10.4.5. Do I have to go back there?

Mac Mini Model A1176: Mac Mini A1176 power LED stable but no other signs of life

Hi,

I tried to power on my mac mini A1176 today after it's been in the garage for a couple of years, the white front LED comes on and stays solid, but there are no other signs of life - no video, beeping, flashing LED, fans spinning etc. So far I have tried:

Multiple displays and cables.

Strip all parts down to and including CPU.

18.2v off the PSU on my multimeter.

Replaced PRAM battery.

No matter what I do to this machine, I get nothing apart from the solid LED light. I can hear a really really quiet high pitched whine coming from the CPU though. Any suggestions will be gratefully received!

Mac Mini Model A1176: Cannot boot into Mac OS X on 2007 Mac Mini

I'm having an issue with a 2007 Mac Mini I recently purchased on eBay. When I first received it, the Mini was working fine. I replaced the internal drive with an SSD, installed 10.6.8, booted it up and all was well. My problem started when I tried to use Boot Camp. When I started the process, the Mini instantly rebooted without giving me the option to partition the drive or anything. I exited the Windows installer and rebooted the Mini to try to go back to OS X but it would not boot into OS X and none of the keys would work to enter recovery or choose boot options. I eventually removed the drive, wiped it with another computer and put it back in but that didn't work either. I then went ahead with installing Windows to see if that would allow me to use other boot options but after successfully installing XP I still could not go into recovery mode or choose boot options.

Mac Mini Model A1176: What this part of logic board is? (photo attached)

Hello everyone!

iFixit Community, thank you much for such detailed reviews and replacement guides! Really appreciate your work. I've got a pretty short question. I've bought an old one Mac Mini A1176 on Ebay and now I'm in the middle of cleaning and replacing the parts of this machine to boost it up and use like media server. I've replaced CPU, installed Crystal HD card instead of Airport Antenna, and upgraded RAM, but one part makes me really confused, cause I don't know what it is it, what does it do and what should I do with this part? (Highland on a picture, which attached with a link. It's by the right hand from RAM sockets).

PHOTO

Since my goal is to bring new life to this machine, what should I do with this thing? Cause it looks like CPU, cause it looks like covered with some kind of cooling radiator, but it's not made from steel. Should there be more doze of cooling paste or should I leave it like it was before me. Please, give me an advice. Thank you in advance.
