Mac Mini Mid 2011: Upgrade 2011 Logic Board

Hello. I’m purchasing a 2011 mid July i5 model:

HDMI, DisplayPort, USB 3.0

500 GB Hard Drive Capacity

Processor Speed 2.30 GHz

Operating System macOS 10.13, High Sierra

Maximum RAM Capacity 16 GB

Model A1347

Intel Core i5 2nd Gen.

RAM Size 16 GB

I’m wondering if I’m able to replace the logic board with a newer model like a 2014 or 2018? Would this even help with speed, etc? I do plan on upgrading to SSD drive and memory. Thanks for any help.

Greg

ive been having this problem for a while,

hello everyone have a problem with my mac mini. when editing photos using photoshop or lightroom and i also have the internet open usually youtube for background sound or watching while adobe stitches my pics together. eventually the mac becomes unresponsive and crashes and restarts. ive copied the error message and googled it. i ran the mac in recovery mode and scanned the drives and no errors were found. any ideas, i thought it might be a hard drive issue and purchased a new 1 but haven’t installed it yet. here is the error message i get : panic(cpu 2 caller 0xffffff7f926f9ad5): userspace watchdog timeout: no successful checkins from com.apple.logd in 120 seconds

Mac Mini Late 2014: Where are the two ambient temperature sensors on a late 2014 Mac Mini?

I’m monitoring the temperature of all the sensors on a Late 2014 Mac Mini (Macmini7,1) and I was wondering if anyone knows what the difference between the “Ambient" thermometer and the "Ambient 2" thermometer is? Even better does anyone know exactly where they are inside the unit?

I’ve got the Mac Mini downstairs in the basement and as we're now moving into Spring and eventually Summer, I want to keep an eye on things down there to ensure they don’t get too hot.

The actual room temperature is 15.1ºC and the Ambient is reading at 27ºC and the Ambient 2 is reading at 25ºC. Does anyone know much about the placement of those two sensors in the Late 2014 Mac Mini? I assume they are measuring air temp inside the case, and not inlet temperature. I’ve not been able to find much online about where those two sensors are inside the unit.

I’m more curious than anything else. I’m happy to use the ambient sensor temperatures as a proxy for the overall environment, but I’m curious as to where they are.

Mac Mini Model A1283: Why is the machine beeping once after changing RAM?

Hi everyone,

I hope you're all doing great. Here's my problem :

The situation :

I tried to change many components in my mac mini a1283 to boost its performance. I followed the guides to install those followings:

Hard drive : intel ssd 520 series 120GB

RAM : 2x 204-pin SODIMM ¤ DDR3 1066MHz CL7 (2 x 4GB, product from Corsair )

Unfortunately as i couldn't follow the instructions but on my smartphone i didn't notice the part where it said not to touch the thermal cable (now it's not broken but apart of the circuit, i'll be able to fix it).

The results for now:

Now the computer won't turn on, i just have the lights on the device and a beep that repeat itself. So I looked on the internet and found it meant that there was no RAM (but the new RAM is inside). Thinking that 8GB was too much i tried to put the old ones again (with the old ATA hard-drive too), still the same result. Nothing on the screen just the one beep that repeat itself. Despite the old RAM that were working before the manipulation, there's just nothing at all for the mac.

What can I do?

If I back up the current HDD to Time Machine, can I install the new SSD and then “restore” it from the back-up? Will it restore the old OS 10.6.8? (Which is what I want).

Or should I put the new SSD in an external USB case (before installing) and “clone” the old internal HDD to the new SSD and THEN install the new SSD?

Mac Mini Late 2014: Mac mini only starts after reset of PRAM by using cmd + option + p + r

My mac mini keeps loading when starting up. Only when clearing the PRAM (by using the CMD + Option + P + R keys), it starts up normally.

I have wiped the entire HD and re-installed the MacOS (through the recovery mode), but even after that the mac mini only starts up normally after reset of the PRAM.

Does anyone know what could be the problem?

Mac Mini Late 2012: My Mac Mini won’t turn on.

Hi, yesterday my Mac mini just decided to stop powering on. Last time I used it was on windows 10 with it being installed by boot camp. I was watching a twitch stream and decided to shut down the system. As i did that, hour later i decided to try to turn it back on but it just won’t. I already contacted Apple and tried to fix it but they just told me to make a reservation or ship it to them, but I’m curious if there is anything else i can do before i ship it to them.

Mac Mini Late 2012: What does logic board sticker mean?

What does the white sticker on my Mac Mini late 2012 logic board mean?

*C07414302RHF1H8AM* 631-2014 CHINA

Current repair is telling me that previous repair swapped out my original logic board claiming they resoldered the board fan connector because there’s no connector repair.

Is there any way to tell that from the letters/numbers on the sticker?

What do the letters/numbers indicate?

My original board was a 2.3 i7.

Is there any what to confirm that from the sticker on the board or prove that it’s not my original board?

Mac Mini Late 2012: How do I figure out if the logic board is damaged?

I bought a used Mac mini. It was working fine when i checked before buying it. But when I turned it on at home, there was some short circuit in the power supply (I was on the login screen when this happened). The AC-in connector is damaged on the power supply and I can see burn’t plastic near the connector.

Will it work if i just replace the power supply? How do I figure out if anything else was damaged?

Mac Mini Model A1283: Mac Mini 3,1 fan 0 rpm after I install SSD

Dear all,

I encountered a very odd problem recently while trying to upgrade my mothers Mac Mini. I wanted to install a SSD drive and first purchased a Crucial M4 128 GB. Following the excellent manual provided on this website it took me just 15min to do so. Mac OS installed perfectly but the Mini would always shut down while installing Windows 7 via Boot Camp. Thinking this was an issue with the Crucial SSD, I exchanged it for a Samsung 840. The installation of Windows 7 worked, but once I wanted to install drivers, the Mini shut down again.

I discovered that when the SSD is in the Mini, the fan won't work and the sensor correctly reads 0 rpm. Bootcamp seems to have a higher cpu load so that it shuts down quicker. When I did a quick stress test in Mac OS, the mini would shut down after a few minutes too. (Apple Hardware Test (AHT) also tells me that the Fan Motor does not work)

Now comes the strange part. First I assumed I broke a cable or the temp sensor (although I used extreme caution and would describe myself as experienced with these kind of tasks).

However, when I reinstall the old 160GB HDD, the Fan will work perfectly, without any errors in AHT.

Does anyone have a clue why the fan spins normally with the original HDD installed and won't even start with 2 different SSDs? I want my mom to profit from the superior SSD speed, but when the fan simply won't work, this is not an option.

Kind regards from Germany,

Daniel
