MacBook Air 11" Early 2015: MacBook Air charging, but won't stay on without charger connected

I just got this 2015 MacBook Air with a coffee spill. Upon internal inspection, there was definitely some coffee near the trackpad and battery, and by the IO board as well. The only moisture indicator that was red was the one on the flex cable connecting the IO board to the MLB.

Initially, the MacBook would not run without the charger plugged in (though the battery does charge) and it would not detect the SSD.

I thoroughly scrubbed everything with a brush and 99% isopropyl, and now I'm installing OS X on the ssd, but I'm not able to power on the MacBook without the charger connected.

The MagSafe indicates when charging and when fully charged. I've attempted SMC reset and NVRAM as well.

Could this fault be repaired by a replacement IO board?

Update (08/08/2016)

Thanks for the advice Dan. I've never seen coconut battery recognize a battery that OS X doesn't. Is there some other function of coconut battery I don't know about?

As the gods smile upon me, the thorough cleaning and battery replacement did the trick. All is well!

MacBook Air 13" Early 2014: MacBook Air fan not working and computer overheating.

A couple of days ago I noticed my computer getting really warm to the touch. Then yesterday I started hearing a faint clicking sound from the area of the computer where the fan is. I tried using fan speed controller software to check is the fan is running, but it reported 0 RPM even though the target was 6500. I need help with this ASAP, as I need my computer for school. I think that the sound is the fan trying to turn on but failing.

MacBook Air 13": MacBook not turning on. No charging light on MagSafe.

Issue:

Okay, so firstly this is not my MacBook Air and nor do I know much about them, so please keep things simple. This is my friends device, he said it was being used as normal and then it suddenly switched off and never powered up again - the battery was apparently at 40% at the time.

I have tried all the above fixes with no success so far. Upon trying a new charger the charging light initially turned orange before going off again, this makes me think that there is some kind of charging issue. Also the screen occasionally shows that the device is charging before quickly going off again.

Is the issue the charging port, the battery or perhaps something else. Any help and direction would be kindly appreciated as I'm afraid I have little experience working with Macs.

MacBook Air: Is the A1369 MBA logicboard from early 2011 compatible with late 2010?

My 13" MBA late 2010 logicboard apparently is damaged and I need to change it. I took it out and tried to clean it but it didn't make a difference.

Since I was thinking of buying a 4gb version I noticed in your guide all the connectors as well as screw positions seem identical to the 2011 model (except the keyboard light which wouldn't be used anyway)

Can it be used this way? Does the IO board cable connector which supports Thunderbolt in the 2011 poses any issues if used with the 2010 IO board?

Is the bluetooth module compatible?

Worst case scenario if you think I should give it a go, I would buy a 2011 logicboard, try it and if it doesn't work I would try to resell it, but obviously that only works if it doesn't get damaged somehow...

MacBook Air 13" Late 2010: Internal Speakers not present only Headphones

Hello Team,

I have a very frustrating issue.

A customer has come to my shop with a this Macbook air for the internal sound not working.

First of all I noticed that the "Alt Sound Option" was only showing Headphones, when none were plugged in.

So I replaced the IO board and data flex connecting it to the main board, no change to issue.

Then I used a USB drive with a known good copy of OSX on it, no change to issue

Next I replaced the logic board, no change to issue.

Next I removed the logic board from the chassis incase there was some kind of short from the casing, I set the logic board and IO board up in my test bay and connected only the required hardware to boot the device.

So the state of play so far is, new logic board, new IO board and flex, no SSD, OSX loaded from external HDD, no wifi board, new internal speakers connected, new fan.

THE ISSUE IS STILL PRESENT.

How can this be possible?

I should note that the start up chime works .

Also when using headphones the sound is really low on both IO boards and logic boards, but when I would use the MIDI setup and mute either channel one or two on the output the sound is at the correct volume on the headphones.

Also note internal speakers do not appear anywhere in the MIDI setup only headphones, even with new parts.

Any Help would let me sleep tonight.

Cheers

MacBook Air 13" Late 2010: Faint burnt smell coming from Mac Air

I've been been smelling a faint burning smell coming from my late 2010 13" Mac Air A1369. I can't exactly pinpoint the source but on the bottom shell I'm feeling some heat coming from the 'general area' of the right side (looking from the top) of the SSD storage drive, roughly 0.5" down from top edge and 6-7" from the left. The area feels much warmer than the area around the mag safe connection which is normally warm. The smell kind of comes and goes. More details:

-I have not yet opened the laptop

-smell is unchanged whether the Mac Air plugged in on mains or running on battery

-smell started yesterday

-smell seems to still occur when laptop turned off but charging

-smell does not occure turned and disconnected from battery

-I have reset the Mac Air's PRAM and SMC

-my battery is not user-removable

-I have been the only owner, purchasing it from Apple in 2010.

-the fan does not come on both otherwise it has been running on other occasions.

-the Mac Air has a 2.13 GHz process, 4 GB of memory, and a 128 GB drive, with about 50 GB available.

-I cannot correlate this issue to anything else, HW or SW event-wise that has occurred recently

-all parts original, laptop has enever been taken apart

-laptop is always used while it sits on an open air laptop support stand 3" off tabletop

Can anyone help me figure out what the problem is and what to do?

Thanks in advance

MacBook Air 13" Early 2015: Need to recover data from extracted SSD of MacBook Air 13" Early 2015

Hi.

I have a MacBook Air 13" Early 2015 that suddenly stopped booting up. I've taken it to the Apple Store, and unfortunately, they were unable to fix it right then & there (and it's outside of warranty, and I don't have Apple Care on it), but they were kind enough to extract the SSD out of it, so that I can recover the data before going any further. I now need to connect this SSD to some sort of chassis or sled (as inexpensive as possible), so that I can copy the data from it to another volume. Through my searches, I happened upon this:

MacBook Air 11" Early 2015: No backlight -- looking for real source of problem

Hi. I have 2015 MBA 11" with no backlight due to water damage. Other than the backlight, it appears fully functional (including LCD).
