Google Pixel 7 Pro: Strange internal part after tearing down Pixel 7 Pro

Hi everyone, I recently went to a third-party repair shop to replace the broken screen on my Pixel 7 Pro. I paid for a so-called “original” screen the shop claimed to purchase for me, but the quality was obviously poor—there were thick black borders and the display looked worse than before.

I returned the next day to have the screen removed. During the screen removal, I took a photo of the internal structure of my phone and noticed a small piece of transparent plastic film above the sensors area.

I checked teardown images of Pixel 7 Pro on iFixit, and this plastic film doesn’t seem to be part of the original design. I also contacted Google official CS and they told me there shouldn't be a plastic film. This makes me wonder if the technician may have added or modified something during the first repair.

Would really appreciate any insight!

(The phone is closed now as I later bought an original screen myself and asked another shop to install it. New screen is ok. However, I just observed this plastic film when scrolling through my album. I feel confused why this area is different to the teardown image from iFixit.)

Google Pixel 7 Pro: Intermittent touchscreen issue after any minor drop

An interesting (albeit frustrating) issue recently manifested with my Pixel 7 Pro, and I can't seem to find any other reports quite like it via Google. I'm hoping someone on this forum is familiar enough with the hardware under the hood to give me an idea of what might be happening and what, if anything, I can do to mitigate this.

The issue occurs after any minor drop, and it has occurred multiple times now in the same way. After a minor drop (~2 feet w/ case), the screen at first becomes completely non-responsive -- just black. After about a minute, the power button will cause the screen to turn on, but the touchscreen will not work at all. I can force restart the phone at this point using the power + volume up button procedure, and the screen comes back on, but the touchscreen still doesn't work at all. Eventually, after multiple restarts and several minutes to half an hour of waiting, touchscreen functionality will come back, seemingly at random. At first it's hit-or-miss, failing intermittently only to come back just as suddenly. Eventually it goes back to normal -- but another minor impact will start this process over.

What's going on here? It feels like some kind of loose connection perhaps, but is there anything I could check? It seems odd to me that the phone seems to "get better" after a rest period, almost like the drop is resetting something that needs to "heal" before it works again. Obviously, that's not how electronics work, but I can't explain it any other way.

Any insight would be much appreciated!

Google Pixel 3: SIM tool accidentally inserted into top microphone hole. Help!

Help, in my haste I accidentally tried to eject my SIM card using the top microphone hole. Yikes! I had used the normal amount of force required to eject the a SIM tray and felt a pop. Has anyone torn down a Pixel 3 and poked a SIM tool in the top microphone to see what would be damaged if anything? If so, I would love to know your findings. I have searched Google and found nothing so far for the Pixel 3. This seems to be a common occurrence if in a hurry and you assume the tray is on the top like a majority of phones. My mistake for sure. Thanks.

Google Pixel: Data Recovery on Pixel 6 with broken display after drop

Outline of information:

Dropped my Pixel 6 and the screen has completely gone black.

I tried doing some random button combination things (like the bootloader option thingy) to see if I could force it to shut down through those menus at least.

I fear I might've completely reset the phone by accident but don't know how to confirm it.

These are the behaviours I've got noted here:

- Plugging in the phone to charge vibrates the phone accordingly

- Vibration motor works

- Camera shortcut (double press off button) doesn't work (doesn't vibrate like normal)

- Pressing the power button and the volume up button does a short vibration which I believe is the silent mode physical shortcut

- Speakers and microphone worked (accidentally called emergency services LMAO)

- No HDMI output even when assisted with power delivery simultaneously

- Plugging in phone to charge makes bottom left of phone warm (same area as the crack on the screen)

- Phone isn't recognised over USB on Linux or MacOS via the normal operating system nor is it recognised over ADB (I had it set up with ADB for apps like scrcpy)

- scrcpy doesn't see the phone

Next steps and ideal goals/outcomes:

My ideal goal would be to recover the app data from it but the first step is to see if I accidentally reset the %#*@ thing.

I would appreciate the help to know what beviours I could look for to see if I've got it booted to the new setup screen. I think the double press to start camera shortcut not vibrating like normal is a sign that I might've just killed my own phone without realising it. :(

Google Pixel 7a: No boot, phone warm, random crashes, generally weird.

Hello,

My P7a (lynx) shut down randomly several times, followed by the phone being unwilling to boot for an extended duration. After each shut down, the amount of time it took for the phone to boot got longer, and the phone no longer boots at all. When the phone was working between shut downs, some functionality would usually be broken. Functions I observed inoperative were (not all together - on different instances): Cellular modem (only connects to EDGE), Camera (none start), and WiFi (Cannot detect any networks).

When the phone refuses to boot, the upper third of the phone remains slightly warm, even when not plugged in. The warmth goes away after being unplugged for an extended duration (hours) and returns when it is plugged in. The phone screen is black, and nothing happens when every combination of power/volume buttons is pressed, held for 10s, held for 60s, or held for 2-3m.

When the phone does boot, the indicated battery % is close to the same as when the phone shut down, even if it has been plugged in for hours.

Judging by the coolness of the AC adapter, I believe the phone does not draw much power when plugged in.

Unsure where the fault may lie. I am willing to disassemble the phone if it is a hardware flaw. Anyone have an idea of what is going wrong?
