I was using it to browse the web when the scrollball stopped scrolling down. It can still go up, left and right but when I scroll down it goes down and spins but there isn't the usual clicking noise and it doesn't do anything on-screen.

Can I fix it at all?

Up until yesterday everything was fine, my Apple Magic Mouse 2 was working correctly on all surfaces.

Suddenly, the Magic mouse has stopped working on most regular surfaces and almost all fabrics (moving the mouse may move the cursor a little bit on these surfaces).

It does work on a transparent nylon, a very soft fabric (EDIT: 100% polyester) and on a leather couch and a specific part of my bare knee. (everything else like touch gestures works).

What is the reason for this? the optical sensor?

I already tried cleaning the optical sensor with a cloth, connecting it to another mac and removing the mouse preferences files with no luck.

I recognize that this swelling is a potential fire hazard.

Further information: The battery is a TIS 2217-2548 Apple South Asia (Thailand) Limited Product, Lithium Ion Polymer Battery

Another question: Will the Magic Trackpad 2 operate with the battery disconnected or removed as long as it is plugged into my MacBook system?

I lost one of the plastic feet of the Trackpad. It is unbalanced now and the click won't work on the side of the missing foot.

I've just took one apart.

It seems easier than the old Apple pro mouse.

Scrolling works perfectly after clearing out all the dirt around the rollers.

Didn't try the upside down cloth method, as I was looking for a excuse to see the guts of the mighty mouse.

I still can use the magic trackpad 2 without any issue,just the glass cracked

All of a sudden my Magic Mouse stopped tracking my movements (cursor). So here is what I have tried:

1. New batteries, twice

2. Remove mouse from the bluetooth, and readded it

3. Clean the lens... which worked for 2 minutes

4. Clean the lens... again worked for 2 minutes

5. Tried it on other devices, at other places but tracking wasn't doing anything

What it is doing:

1. Left-click

2. Right-click

3. Scrolling

4. Gestures

5. Swipe etc

So here I am, tearing down the Magic Mouse on a Friday night.

What my best guess is that my optical 'sensor' is broken or at least not getting all the contact it should get.

Does anybody have a keen eye, and could tell me what is wrong with it?

Thanks for taking a minute, hopefully anyone is able to help me out.

ps. I get the fact that my ribbon is a bit loosy, due to the fact that it took it apart.

I pulled out my magic mouse 2 last week to use with my laptop.

-Apparently dead

-LEDs on the bottom never turn on

-My guess is that the internal rechargeable battery has died after 2-3 years.

-Since I have nothing to lose, can I open it up and try to swap in a new battery?

-Where do I get a battery for that device?

When I went to try and turn on this Magic Mouse, the mouse did not turned on.

When I went to change the batteries, I found corrosion on the battery terminals. I changed the batteries anyway, and the mouse didn't work.

It also seems like the battery acid may have gotten inside the mouse, since this contact is not working correctly and does not spring back up. I was able to fix it a little bit and get it to spring up again, but it still sticks.

Is there any way to fix this? The mouse was $80 and it seems like I got lucky and caught it before it could get any worse then it already is. It seems like I caught this corrosion while I have time to clean it and get the mouse working again.

I think it might have to do with that extractable metal thin plate that sits under where the middle right finger rests (more or less).

I see it is not impossible to open up the Magic Trackpad 2 and to get at the Taptic Engine. Does anybody know if I can get a replacement part for it anywhere?
