Apple AC Adapter: MagSafe connector heats up really bad, why is that?

I have a late 2009, macbook white, which up until a couple of days ago worked perfectly - now, every time I'm attaching the magsafe connector to the laptop, the connector itself heats up quite a lot in a matter of minutes. It works ok if I try to recharge the battery whilst the laptop is powered off, however every time I'm trying to recharge the battery with the laptop powered on the connector heats up to the point that I can barely touch it.

I can't figure out what is to blame here; is it the connector from the cable at fault, or is it the connector inside the laptop, or the battery?

Also now, the connector only charges the battery if I fiddle with its position a bit.

Any input into the matter would be much appreciated:

Thank you!

Update (06/11/2014)

oh and does anyone know how I can safely dismantle the MagSafe connector? I'd like to check the wiring, before buying a new charger.

Apple USB Power Adapter: USB Adapter isn't working; how to open it?

I received an Apple USB Power Adapter with my iPhone 3G (http://store.apple.com/au/product/MB051X... ), but it's since never worked for me.

I've tried plugging my iPhone, iPod and iPad into this adapter, but none of them have acknowledged being plugged in at all.

I'd sadly left this too late so it's out of warranty now.

As a bit of experience, I was thinking about opening the adapter myself and trying to get it working.

So I was wondering if anyone else has actually done this before and if there is a best way of going about it?

Failing that, I can easily take it to an eWaste disposal facility.

Thanks very much!

I have a typically frayed magsafe charger. It frayed at the end and became useless so I replaced it. Since I have been getting better with a soldiering iron, I deciede to take the razor knife and cut into the plastic part to open it up and see if I could Frankenstien it back together.

Guess what? It worked!!

You've heard "if it ain't broke, dont fix it." Yeah, well I decided not to follow that advice because I wanted to make it look pretty.

Murphy's law kicked in and it won't work any more.

Which wire goes on which soldiering point of the tiny PCB under the plastic cover? One goes opposite the chip, and one goes other end but I am unsure of myself since I messed with it too much. I de-soldered everything and I am starting with clean wire from the brick.

There is the inside wire and the outside wire and I need to know where each one goes.

Or did I fry the PCB or chip or whatever by heating too much?

Thanks in advance for the responces.

Apple Adapter: Can I modify my old Apple power adapter (85W, MagSafe 2) to USB-C?

Its adapter suddenly stopped doing half of the work: it can maintain the battery at its percentage, but not increase its charge.

The OS icon says "Battery is not charging", with a lightning logo. The LED is off.

The same Macbook with a different adapter works perfectly. The same adapter on another Macbook displays the same behavior.

Thus it seems pretty clear that this is specific to the adapter.

Any idea what is wrong and how to fix it ?

Thanks in advance

SOLUTION : I replaced the cable and now it's working
