Given that the right earcup houses the main electronics and battery and it’s quite simple to remove the earcups with a SIM ejector tool, is it possible to take the left earcup to be paired with a different right earcup, or vice versa? What happens to the serial number?

Apple has anticipated replacing the ear cups but I really wonder about the head band. There doesn’t appear to be removable and seems like it will wear out rather quickly.

Hi everyone,
I bought a faulty pair of AirPods Max to try repairing them myself.

Originally, the charging power kept dropping over time (about 3W → 2W → 1W → 0W) until it eventually stopped drawing any power at all. When I connected a charger and pressed the button, the LED would blink amber, and then it started blinking green. Even with the charger connected, the headphones wouldn’t function, and repeating the reset procedure didn’t help. If I unplugged the cable, there was no response at all, so I assumed the battery was completely drained and replaced the battery.

After replacing the battery, the only change is that the LED behavior went from blinking green to blinking amber—but nothing else improved. It still shows 0W draw even with the charger connected, and it won’t charge or power on.

In a case like this, what would you suspect as the likely cause? What parts or components would you recommend checking or replacing next, and what troubleshooting steps should I try?

I just recently got these APMs, and I've been through 5+ factory resets this week alone. It randomly stops working after being disconnected and I have done the following that I've found online

Resetting (Crown + ANC/TP button)
Charging AND being near a charging phone to update firmware (This has NOT worked for me.)

Charging until the amber light turns bright green

I suspect it is a firmware issue, and the firmware is stuck on 4E71 (2022)

I've literally done everything, and I hate to carry a lightning cable around with me. I don't have that much money on me to afford a repair since AppleCare+ is expired on my device.

When I press/hold both buttons, or one button at a time, it does not show any light indicator. Answers appreciated.

When the right earcup is open, the pairing begins, and if you turn the earcup slightly inward, only the right voice will be cut off, and if you turn it a little more, the Bluetooth will be disconnected. When you install the headphones, the pairing is unpaired from the iPhone.

In this case, is it a problem with poor contact of the hinge hardware?

AirPods Max: Digital Crown Flex removal

Hi there,

I am working on replacing all the ANC mics on my APM due to hiss. I got the left fixed, but hit a snag with the right. This mic flex also includes the button for the crown, and I cannot see how on earth I get that off the old one. You can see in my picture that the screw has zero room to get to it, same on the bottom. Does anyone know how that is meant to come off, or how I detach the crown to get to it? Is there a special tool I need? Thanks!

There is a small wire with 4 leads only 2 are used that run between the left and right head phones, they are only used for charging the left head phone that wire is broken does anyone know the gage of the wire or where i could pick up a replacement

AirPods Max: Why is my auto-head detection not working?

The auto-head detection is not working as well as the noice cancellation and transprency mode. The buttons don’t work either. I’ve tried resetting multiple times but nothing seems to work. If I turn auto-head detection off the sound still works, but not the functions I mentioned.
