Turn the dial just above the bit to the highest setting. (The dial with the numbers on it). You should be able to get 250 lbs of torque on this model.

Drill is 5 years old, had moderate use. Drill 5 to 10 holes in wood or drive 5 to 10 longer screws and the drill stops working, battery strength lights flash. Leave it alone for 3 to 5 minutes and it works again normally. Do the same amount of work and it repeats. If you only drill 1 or 2 holes or drive 1 or 2 screws the drill does not misbehave. A tool only replacement is $100 CDN and an upgrade to 1/2” is only $30 more with charger and bag. The repair solution needs to be inexpensive parts wise and not epic to perform. I’m willing to try a fairly simple repair/servicing. Any suggestions??

Stopping then starting after a “rest” is a signature symptom of a thermal problem. Likely, the speed control circuit connected to the trigger.
However, with the battery lights flashing, that might indicate there is too much current being drawn by the tool and the battery has been shut down to protect it. The tool might have shorted windings. Economically, that may be a show stopper for a fix.

I have a 4.2 volt drill and the battery life is really annoying so can i replace battery with a 5 volt soldered input to directly power the drill, or could i use 12 volt to directly power the drill. Which one is more safe? Id like to challenge myself with this project. Are there any limitations. I just want it to work. i.e. : my device does not exist on ifixit site so ill attach an image.

To use 5vdc all you need to do is connect the battery and drill away. All battery device will usually handle as much as 3 VDC more than they are rated. As far as 12 vdc you will need to drop the voltage and the easiest way to do the is hard wire a cigarette lighter to cell phone adaptor inline between the battery and your device. I personally have modified the connections on many of my 18 VDC and some 14 VDC devices to connect to a 24 VDC pack I .ade and so far so good.

Take the battery out/off. You’ll have to disassemble the drill enough to get at the switch and that’s usually a handful of screws, but just make sure you keep track of where they came out from. you’ll need to get to the switch
If you have a multimeter, you could hook it up to the switch on each electrical lead going into the switch. the meter should be set to resistance (Ohms) and squeeze the trigger. You should see the resistance change (likely decrease) as the trigger is moved. If it doesn’t, try and spray in it with some electrical contact cleaner while you are squeezing it back and forth. You’ll want to also double check there are wires correctly soldered to the switch. Re-solder them, if they are really loose or broken off.
BTW - I assume you’ve tried this, but make sure you have full voltage in your battery pack. The switch could be fine but your charger might be lying to you. 😜

If the battery is not charging first try to charge it in another wall outlet. If it still is not charging try using another charger. If it still is not charging then you will need to get a new battery.

what would cause a rigid hammer drill to drain or lose power

Hi damon,
While there are a few possibilities of things that could be wrong with the drill itself, the most common problem with a drill that has a short runtime would be the battery. All batteries, whether Ni-Cd or Li-Ion, will eventually lose the ability to hold a charge. It's sometimes hard to tell if a battery is going bad or not; probably the easiest way is to compare it against a new or known good battery. My son has a 20-year old Craftsman drill and I just finished buying new batteries for his; when I went to use it one of the batteries lit up the battery fault lite on the charger immediately and wouldn't charge at all, and the other gave me a runtime of about 10 minutes after being fully charged. So even if you have two batteries, if they're the same age they could both be at the same stage of degradation.
Other than that, you'd have to take the drill apart and check the field windings on the armature and coils, along with checking the switch for excessive resistance. It's brushless, so worn out brushes aren't a factor here.
Let us know how old your battery/batteries are, what kind you have (Ni-Cd or Li-Ion), and in what condition they are in and we can figure out what to do next.

@davidmack2477 how old is the battery pack? Sounds like your battery crumps under load. Replace that and re-evaluate.

When you pull the trigger the drill only runs a short time and stops. Releasing the trigger and re-pulling it does nothing. If you release the trigger and switch direction, then pull the trigger it run but again only for a few seconds.

Battery is most likely dead. Try charging it,........ . Test it using a multimeter. The batteries can go bad and they will no longer accept a charge.
Opa! Mudei de ideia.
